Sadly, I have to agree with this comment. I love what Radiomode does, but this seems to push the rules of incidental text.

Firstly, no one knows who vincent van go is. Vincent Van Gogh, however, was a pretty distinctive artist, and did a number of self portraits. The fact that he cut his ear off also makes him more distinctive... it's sort of like how no one would remember def leppard if the drummer had two arms.

Secondly, which woot do you shop at that costs 11 bucks?

Re: Are You Inexperienced?

Thanx to those who like this submission.
This was hand vectored from an actual photo of Hendrix so I'm not quite sure how it was 'NOT MY IMAGE'. If anyone knows where I 'snarked' my own image from, please tell me. Maybe I should have created someone that wasn't famous .... no... wait... that wouldn't have made sense... :p
Anywho, maybe some are just too snarky when it comes to art...
Thanx again to those who believe.

Very nice and simple design. I'm from Hong Kong so this shirt is very meaningful to me.

Anyways, I'm so glad that this shirt is beating Lpod, it's only a matter of time until it makes it into the fog!

Sorry but I don't agree with this rejection. We have a lot of entertainers in this derby and Evil Knievel is significant enough to compete. Pick an event..

Wiki: Knievel's nationally televised motorcycle jumps, including his 1974 attempt to jump Snake River Canyon at Twin Falls, Idaho, represent four of the twenty most-watched ABC's Wide World of Sports events to date.

Navy looks green on my computer too. If those are Pantone colors, they look really nice though! :D

Also generally entries that are submitted Fri through Sunday have a chance, although most winners are submitted on Friday. (this site has a lot of fun statistics http://www.shirtsonsale.info/2007/09/shirtderby-winners-by-date-and-color.html)

Thanks for the link! :o I'll definitely be more careful in the future about the border stuff. Also, I guess I should try to submit Friday T_T

Should I expect to see more designs from the mind of adder in future derbies, or just more complaining about what shouldn't be winning?

Anyway, this is a clever idea, but I'm a bit bothered by the swirls on the sides- They just look rather messy/choppy, and I'm afraid of how they'd print. Other than that, it's quite lovely, and congrats on fogging- Looks like it's going to be 2 in a row for you

As a side note, I feel this design reads a bit as "what if Van Gogh were a pirate" rather than what if he had gouged out an eye instead, because his self portraits have ears on them :P

If you consider silhouetted humans clip artish, then yes, I guess it would evoke that look. But I was simply trying to recreate those iPod ads without actually having any in front of me to bias it... The whole design is 100% original though, and drawn without any references (which probably explains the hair ) But I'm very happy with the end look.

I feel that this could potentially fall under the category of incidental text, because it might as well be scribbles. The text represents a shape in the design, but isn't actually necessary (and is certainly not a slogan by any means)- From afar, it's impossible to tell that it's text at all, so hopefully woot won't reject it on that basis. My only concern is with the photo used, but I don't imagine that will be an issue either. Woot rejected many designs since this one was posted, so hopefully that means this one is safe. Congrats on fogging, and I really hope this makes it to print because it's definitely more clever and well executed than anything else in the fog right now, IMO

Loopy and I decided to take a couple of his self portraits and meld them together for this. The major image is more similar to his younger self portraits, but he does have one sans ear. You'll note he even has a similar coat

Though if people want to read it as a pirate Van Gogh, I am sure neither loopy nor I will complain if it prints for that reason.

As for more designs from the mind of Adder, it is ever a possibility. Keeping the derby honest, tho, is my main goal.

What colour was it supposed to be? From the design detail, my guess is heather grey. But the shirt comp looks to me like Threadless Olive (which is much lighter than Woot Olive).

The latest any design has won is on Monday. It's happened a few times, when the design was good enough. Saturday submissions commonly win. Some even think it may be better than submitting on Friday, since you then avoid the early rush under which your design might have been lost. It also gives you an extra day to polish your design. It's debatable, and you should decide whether or not to try for Friday or Saturday on a case-by-case basis. Sunday and Monday subs are usually used for lat minute "Eureka!" ideas. The best reason to submit on Tuesday is to try to break the latest-time record.

Due to the perspective on his head, we're left unaware of the status of his right ear. Perhaps he gouged out an eye IN ADDITION to cutting off his ear. Or yeah, he's just a pirate.
