Ah, but what values are you using for e and pi? They are both non-terminating so you HAVE to round at some point when you use either value in a calculation, if you want an actual number without keeping the representative symbols.

Re: What if Washington Could Tell a Lie?

To clarify my earlier comnment:

I don't see an alternate history here. First of all, the deal with GW telling the truth to his father is unsubstatiated. Second, how does this picture show him lying?

(it doesn't matter if the person died decades ago, Einstein was rejected for example). However, if it doesn't get rejected i may end up buying this shirt, so i kind of hope it doesn't.

It's no single painting.
Part of its cleverness is that it combines at least four separate authentic references and in a way that the artist himself would have rendered yet another self-portrait had he put an eye out.

I think it's ingenious and needs to stay in the fog.

Thanks, dude. I was actually kind of disappointed you hadn't commented! I thought, "Well, I think this is one of my best efforts, but if the Adder thinks it's not even comment-worthy, then I'm a little out of touch..."

Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for helping the world make sense again. ;)

I'm going to actually post two more designs to Threadless some time this week, so keep your eyes and ears open (I'll be sure to plaster the message boards here, of course)

The title doesn't say anything about Gilligan's Island, just says seven stranded castaways. Unless you are familiar with Gilligan's Island, I don't think it would be the first thought to pop into somebody's head. I didn't know it was "supposed" to be the cast of Gilligan's Island. I thought it was just seven dudes. I think Edgar is getting by because he doesn't specify who the seven people are. He lets people infer it.

He did put the key on the string to attract the lightning. In the alternate history version, it didn't work out that way.

This design is not a comment on the scientific accuracy of the experiment, or a debate about whether or not it would ever work. It's just a simple joke... Ben failed and he got struck by lightning. (it sounds a tad morbid when I say it like that)
I just wanted to spark the thought "what if?"

He actually never conducted such an experiment, with the key to attract lightning and all. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was more along the lines of sending a kite up to collect electrical charge BEFORE lightning began. It wasn't so much to prove that lightning was electricity as it was to show that the atmosphere could carry a charge.

Or something like that.

Yeah, whatever the case was, I did the shirt because it is a recognizable experiment. The part I AM pretty sure of is that he didn't actually get struck by lightning

elwayman02 wrote:This is exactly why I don't like this shirt. A good shirt is one that is self-explanatory devoid of context. Not knowing the derby theme, people should be able to figure out Ever just think about breadsticks? the design is about. I don't think this idea captures that at all.

On a side note, I think the art is great, and this would make a great poster with some sort of caption to explain it. But alas, as a shirt, yet another victim of "poster shirt" disease (something great to look at, but not so great to wear).

This is not a shirt I would wear, but I think it's clever. I do agree it suffers a bit from 'poster disease'. I felt the same way about Stuck Inside which I loved but again...would not wear.

But, I don't agree that a good shirt needs to be IMMEDIATELY self-explanatory. How many people will figure out a shirt's message (so to speak) and how quickly depends on the obviousness of the shirt, how well the message is conveyed (this being a separate issue from intentional subtlety), the message itself, and the audience.

Classic art is not something everyone is familiar with, and art history even less so. So no, not everyone will 'get' this shirt. But that's similar to the Quixote shirt a while back - a shirt I own and like BECAUSE not everyone will get it. Either only reasonably well-read and educated people will, or people who don't will ask me about it and I can explain (and show off :D). Yes, I'm an elitist snob, but then the super nerdy shirts are similar in this regard.

Lastly, sometimes you just wear a shirt for yourself, because you think it's awesome. I shave my legs even when I'm not dating because I like how it feels to have smooth legs. Not everything's about other people.

And to clear up another thing. This shirt was a not a direct resub as some are so inclined to believe. I always make my designs fresh for a derby.

Hey man, i am sorry for the the tension we have gone through in the past. I thank you for calling out for me, trying to renew something that we never had, "A FRIENDSHIP". Although I am not particularly fond of the blank shirt idea, i support you man and wish you the best. I WILL VOTE FOR YOUR SHIRTS WHENEVER THEY ARE POSTED. I am not sure if woot would ever accept a blank shirt. As i am sure you have heard many of times, there was once a blank shirt a few years ago and it did not do well. Also, try and make sure your shirt 100% fits the derby. This week's one may have been a little "IFFY" but i see where you come from. The reason i dont think woot will ever accept a blank shirt is because of last weeks derby..."The Beginning". It was a perfect one if you ever wanted to post a blank shirt. Someone posted a blank shirt, and called it "The Empty Canvas", i thought "Hey, that does fit the theme, a blank canvas is the beginning of any painters work". And yet how ever much that fit the theme, it was still rejected.

So in conclusion. Please guys SUPPORT MY FRIEND SHENERON. Help him to defy the odds and pull through with a blank shirt. I know i will be, pulling for you man.... And any wise guy who comes across this and doesnt like it, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. I know from experience, you will only end up looking like a donkey's bottom in front of everyone. Maybe, just give some good insight on how you could make the shirt better qualified, (if you can, with a blank shirt :P. not much to change.)

I am sorry for the grief i have caused you in the past, and i hope you can fully forgive me. And i will always be behind you 100%, man. I will vote for your shirts when you post them, and ALWAYS POST POSITIVE about them.

Good Luck, and God Bless.

6) Shirt color
