Thanks. I didn't use any filters, didn't chop, and didn't trace. I referenced two particular portraits of his, hand drew similar elements from each, integrated the eye patch and changed up the color scheme. As I said before, I couldn't change it too much because it needed to be recognizable, however I didn't want to copy it exactly either.

I'm not sure how the Woots-That-Be decide on the copyright issues. It seems like there are a lot of gray areas. All I can tell everyone is that I tried my best to make this my own.

Thanks for all the great comments and for the votes!

This is clearly not a copyright issue. I'm not sure why there's a to do about it other than it is in the fog. Great shirt and I hope it makes it to print.

I agree. It is in the spirit of the derby to "draw" something. With some of the latest tracing and copying allegations, if it looks live-traced, posterized, or even hand-traced, it will be greatly scrutinized and should be. I know that some artists are very gifted and can draw something from a reference so well that it looks like a trace but isn't; however, it may still be considered "copying". In my opinion, the Van Gogh entry appears to be drawn from references and not directly copied or computer generated from another picture. The artist put her own subtle twist on some references and did a great job... but that's just my opinion. The bottom line is we are at the mercy of the judges, they interpret the rules as they see fit, and we all know this going in every week. We can only hope that they are fair and consistent.

We know your original placement of the buttons was purely a coincidence of your Y chromosome imprinting.

CCCP is the acronym for the Russian equivalent of the USSR, aka the soviet union. It's actually pronounced more like SSSR, but it looks a bit different to us since they used crazy Cyrillic letters instead of regular American ones.

Re: Cloning failure

I'm not sure I get this outside of the derby. Without the title there's no explanation in the design about why there is a sheep with three heads on the shirt. It's just a sheep with three heads, with not a whole lot going on. And apparently the other sheep thinks with their rear end. Just not quite clicking for me.

great work as always boots!

im a little rusty on my american history, but werent the rabbits in a space race with the mice? seeing as how the moon is made of cheese and all, i thought that wouldve been enough motivation alone to get the mice there first : /

great job!

The ones with singers get rejected for celebrity likeness. Uhh...the President is not just some celebrity, he is a historic figure. This is a history theme. Most would have to have a likeness to something or someone or we would not know what we are looking at.
