lokklyn wrote:Thanks for the advice, but wouldn't Woot just change it if it's an issue? I don't know if resubmitting for placement is a common practice; I'd rather just leave it up to Woot to decide where to put the design. Even if people disagree with the placement, I hope they vote anyways — I can specifically request that they alter the placement, right? I don't have any experience with this, so anyone else's input is very much appreciated.

I'll try to make my placements less awkward in the future, I promise! I'm still new here, so I'm sorry if I make awkward placement mistakes.

Turbo is correct in his reply. Woot prints the shirt as-is, outside of adjusting colors to what they can print, if needed. They do not change the placement of the design, and it's fairly common practice to submit second versions of a design if something like that comes up. I think it happens a couple times every derby. Someone either resubs for placement changes or to change up the colors of the design/shirt, and then the Woot community votes for both or neither as they see fit.

Unless you have made a purchase from shirt.woot, (your clear box next to your name on your post says you haven't) you cannot, unfortunately, vote. (yet!) The derby will be going on for a while still, if you see a shirt you like in the next couple days, buying one would allow you to vote!

Glad you like it. I would wager that my stuff isn't getting the love like it used to because I've eased on the pandering (this is a joke entry so it doesn't really count). Haven't taken a derby seriously since... the versus derby? The loss to politically incorrect stick figures kind of put me off for awhile. I don't really want Scurvy to die either. :x

@ sailor - Thank yew! I liked the penguin too. Poor girl.

@ lokklyn - I think you are right. I should have also made the dragon look more like a pokemon, added a few more penguins, and probably some extra blood somewhere. PARODY FA*L.

@ godfrey - Glad you liked the backstory. *stripes you pink* Lawl...

I love this shirt, and I don't know why so many people are down on the fact that cute cartoon animals always make it in the tops of the derbies or that a few people seem to keep winning. shirt.woot is a collaborative effort, make a better shirt if you think they don't deserve it any more. until then, I suppose you have to live with it.

No I think it's okay. I mean, I always get out my winter blowtorch every year to defrost my car, dragon, friends, etc. Each winter you can watch the winter dragon migration. What says "winter" better than violent snowmen and penguins? ...and if that's not enough, there's totally a winter scarf in there.

And so is sekiyoku (is that how it's spelled?) and etc. etc. You guys know you are, and you should expect people to react the way they are. I, for one, have pretty much given up on ever EVER maybe getting printed on this site. I'm not saying you guys don't earn your monies from the woot, because you do (you're good), I'm just saying that you're gaining some serious, dangerous sort of momentum. Like, too much momentum. I'm waiting for some hideous backfire. I feel it in my bones.

Good luck anyways! :D

......and I feel really bad for people like Draxxx and BootsBoots who turn out work that's basically as good as yours, and don't get any monies. Just a thought. Hm.

Fortunately the faux-anime style is quite easy to mimic and even perfect. Soon this site will be a haven for manga fans and japan-culture gurus. The comment boards will be filled with mindless fans chanting winwinwinwinwin!!! and WANT! to thier hearts content.

Any artist can do it! It's formulaic and fun! So don't be sad, grab a wacom tablet and and start drawing those big, watery eyes!

But seriously, the people aren't voting artists, they are voting style. And its not a new style or a hard one to mimic. All you need is to give up on the idea of individuality and give in to the need to make enough money online that you don't have to go back to your part-time job as a flash programmer.

This is why I don't have friends. No one wants to play with me. I just like to win, okay?

So they're having a snowball fight, and one person is about to come to an unfortunate end... Just when he thought he was doing so well. Sounds like the story of my life. The girl is a stylized version of myself. I'm generally pretty overzealous when it comes to some forms of competition (namely snowball fights).

I know it's a stretch to submit Monday at 1 am.. But... This idea busted out of my mind and I HAD to draw it. So uh... Vote for it if you really like the design! I can shrink it if it's bigger than 16x20; just imagine it smaller. I'm a REALLY huge dork for big prints, and strong diagonal elements, by the way.

Here's a detail:

Click for a bigger detail!

Also, I would LOVE to hear feedback... especially on placement, since that's something I've been struggling with for my past submissions. I'm an new artist and haven't done tshirt stuff before.

Honestly, at first I was wondering why this didn't look more 'anime' styled since Gentry said he passed along the idea and Ramy did the rest. Then I read further and saw that Gentry actually did the initial sketch, *then* passed it along.

And I was no longer puzzled.

Still, it's a good match. This entry is pretty cute.

Wow, I love the design and the title!! So awesome!!

The placement? Reeeally hard to wear...if this were smaller and placed in the center, or a little above center, I know I'd LOVE to wear this. As is, it's just so huge, and on a girl it would look a little strange. Just my two cents. (GMV anyway because I LOVE the design so much! You're on a roll!!)

Haha, on a roll, that's a pun! Thank you~~ I should probably try to not be dumb about sizes, but.. I'm torn between submitting something I'd personally want to wear and what everyone else would want to wear.. I guess the latter is a smarter decision D: Also, I'm a HUGE threadless junkie, and the majority of newer shirts i own are oversize prints that are surprisingly wearable.

sidenote: this is the style i draw in for my weekly comic strip for my university's newspaper, if anyone's curious. It's not intended to look anime-y, it's just how my cartoon style evolved over time. If you want to see some of my comics, they're in my portfolio site at the bottom.
