Something about the red light was bugging me, beyond the blood confusion (which I did have, for a second): Why is the light shining DOWN when the light source is facing FORWARD?

Looking at my optical mouse, I'd guess that the answer to that is "because the light on an optical mouse is angled."

the shadows are strange unless mybe there are multiple light sources. the shadow of the grounded one comes from a background source and the airbourne one suggest a foreground/vertical source.

Thanks for the reply. You seem to be the favorite of the artists. I'm the farthest thing from the world from an artist so that probably has to do with why most of the designs aren't as appealing to me (but I loved the winter shirt you did that got the HM).

Wow.. am I the first to call Fai1 on this? guess so.

Sorry, but a birds on a powerline t-shirt in a derby about individualism is like Hitler giving a speech about peace. Ironic?!

Probably the only design in the top 50 that both has to do with the derby theme and is worth printing.

I'm saddened that it doesn't seem likely this shirt will win. I hope to see it entered again elsewhere for another attempt to get it printed, because I would certainly like to have the opportunity to wear it.

Re: Dimitri was a dreamer

ewww... this is NOT cute. it is actually quite horrifying. big elephant heads with no bodies; just legs sprouting from their craniums. all are oddly proportioned and frightening. especially that poor acne riddled one chasing that butterfly hallucination.

this would be better if they actually looked like elephants.

Good to see this back in the hotness.

Not the most original of ideas, but it is a different take on Rockem Sockem Robots that I've seen:

A threadless design

And one on loiterink

yea, I know, the last one is mine.

The legs, and shading of the legs, bother me. Cute expression and colors for the pink elephant though.

What's not original? The use of RSR? If that's how we were determining originality, we'd have to axe MOST of the derby entries.

I loved fruit stripes gum when I was a kid, you could lick the wrapper of each piece of gum and get a tattoo...ok maybe that's weird. >.> They still make it, find it at your local nostalgic candy store! Or online, they sell it online too. Hehe.

felloffthebus wrote:Yes, cute gets very tiring, it plays out in every derby, and always gets all of the votes even when it is the most generic. Elephants, mice, hedgehogs, rabbits, it never ends. Cuteness works for ANY derby. Making cute things is something anyone can do whereas clever ideas are hard to come by. A small pink polka-dotted elephant following a butterfly has no artistic integrity in it whatsoever.

Thank God most entries that would HAVE artistic integrity don't print. Very few "artistic" designs that have been entered in the derbies actually LOOK good as a shirt.

IMO it's not as original an idea as some of the other higher scoring designs because I've seen this idea printed in other places, ergo the examples. no one mentioned axing.

that said, originality isn't the strong point on most entries to comps like this. when it does show up it's often overlooked in favor of the cheap pun or clever cultural reference. but, hey, that's what people wanna wear, right?

Sad thing is, that is so true. On occasion it isn't, and on an even rarer occasion an artistic one that looks good on a shirt actually gets noticed by the voters. Those are times to celebrate.
