Oh, good call, I forgot about the double take possibility. I'm pretty heartbroken this isn't getting printed this time around.

re: purple sea

I really like this shirt. Love the colors and anything that is related to the ocean I'm a sucker for...
BTW, does anybody make t-shirts with KOI the Japanese Carp on it? Or is this a bad thing to ask? Is it a no,no to make suggestions?

Hey, you're right! It is kinda weird, but in a good way. Hmmmm...do you think it takes away from the whole picture or drawing? Or helps it.

I do love this t-shirt though and didn't notice the 3-D looking staircase until I read your posting.

I don't think it takes away from the drawing at all. I like the fact that I can look at it and see it "differently." It makes me like this design even more and good lord the artist has patience! All those lines!

Yaaaaaaawn. I'm bored.

I'm new to this site and I have to say, this shirt is fantastic. Great use of minimal colors and space. I would put on this shirt in a heartbeat.

It helps that growing up, the killer whale was my favorite animal.

mrwednesday wrote:The weird thing about the feet to me is that once you've suspended disbelief on why they have a doughnut, it would still make more sense for the big fish to bite his (her?) feet and drag him into the water.

This. I get suspension of disbelief. But if I look at the shirt and say "what is going on in this picture?" it looks like the person wants to hook the fish to eat them and the fish want to hook the person to eat him/her.

But the fish can eat the person anytime it wants, since the person is sitting in the water. It doesn't really seem like a design decision, more like an oversight. Even in a fish-can-handle-donuts cartoon world, it still doesn't make sense.

AdderXYU wrote:1) woot has VERY few super artsy shirts. Your standards are incredibly low.

2) yes, you like cutesy exclusively because you are a girl. You also suck at sports but excel at cooking, and have no place in an office building. It is a shame woot doesn't offer maternity shirts. Because you are a girl, and all you do is have babies.

3) in the short-term, this winning would be a blow to someone's finances who did work deserving a reward. not the end of the world, but in this economy, certainly bad. Thankfully it is unlikely. In the long-term, to me, this sort of shirt is a symbol of our culture's lack of ability to see past our own noses. It's incredibly disposable and instantly forgettable as soon as something else in the style comes along. It has no value past your wanting it. It's entire purpose is to be consumed. And it is my firm opinion that yes, that sort of thinking will do us in eventually. It's not a shirt. It's a whole destructive mindset.

Wow...that is the most insulting thing anyone has ever said about me or to me...i mean by far the MOST insulting...but hey at least you excel in something, jerkoff.

It's a friggin' shirt...lighten up francis. Sorry that i don't see fully your view as a shirt connoisseur and designer...I suppose i find myself looking to more substantial means of sustaining myself and my family in "this economy" than hoping on a whim that a website that sells one shirt a day will provide enough to keep my finances in check.

My favorite bit though, is the line that "It's entire purpose is to be consumed" and "that sort of thinking will do us in eventually." I mean...seriously? I mean, what is the purpose of designing shirts if they are not meant to be, as you say, "consumed." I thought that it was your belief that if this shirt won it would be a blow to someone else's finances. Was this other person's shirt not designed to be sold...i mean otherwise how would this silly squid shirt hurt their finances? It would seem to me that this mindset is a bit double standard. But i am "just a girl" and i am far inferior to what you think and say...

And by the way, either you are incredibly sexist or you are insinuating that i myself was playing the sex card...which is such a long shot it is not even funny. I appologize for the presence of my ovaries which make me by far the more inferior sex. I guarantee that i have more intelligence and capability in my little finger than you do in your whole being, buddy.

Bottom line...get real and grow up. Because if you do not do so now, it is going to be a painful reality when you are forced to do so in the future...especially in "this economy."

AdderXYU wrote:have you horse sorts seen this? No clue if it's up to snuff for you anatomically, but it's probably my favorite horse-y design out there.

That is very nice, Adder! I do like it. It's better anatomically-wise than the yellowmino (not dissing the yellowmino, it's a seahorse, they're made differently) and the bw to color and sketchiness of it all -- well, *I* like it.

Nice to meet you Adder...I've been seeing you a lot on the woot forums and I do believe I've purchased a few of your designs. ;-)

Re: The old man and the seaweed (in color)

I just ran across this website, and wanted to say that I think this design is very, very clever! (sorry, I guess the voting is over). It takes awhile of looking at it to really appreciate all the creatures that are in it. Probably a lot of people just didn't look at it too closely, to see the fine details. Some of this may be lost on a T-shirt, that people wouldn't glance at long enough to see everything, but I thought it certainly deserves a comment, and appreciation for your clever design. Scuba divers would appreciate it!

Maybe the subtitle should be "How many creatures of the sea can you find?"

Re: Otters Are Jerks

Usually there's one aspect of shirts here that really bugs me, so I like them at first, but I can't buy it because something isn't right.

Here, it's the paws/feet of the otters. Why don't they have flippers instead of flat feet? I'd say that they look more like river otters, but then they're too big, and furthermore what's someone doing SCUBA diving in a river?

Just wondering why they were designed that way . . . I'm not trying to be hypercritical, just trying to figure out what the drawing was based on. I'm a huge fan of otters, and saw this and thought I'd buy it immediately (fun idea), but then looked more and had an issue (as mentioned above). Not trying to be hypercritical.

I SCUB dive in rivers. There are great spring-fed rivers her in FL and people SCUBA dive in them all the time.
