zenbifocals wrote:Toes....you have gotten a number of accolades for this design and I think they are deserved. I have thus far declined to comment because thoughts occur to me and I didn't want to be a negative sounding voice. But having a bit of praise heaped on you gives me a little space to share. And one other qualifier/disqualifier... I CANNOT point to my own body of work as a superior talent. I'm a noob. Clear?

The lander occurs to me as being detailed and well thought out. The ship doesn't seem to possess this same level of attention. They seem like two different compositions brought together. Notice, I don't critique the ship as being poorly done, it just didn't get the same attention as the lander. I also failed to realize the ship being in motion for a while. You might have enhanced this effect so that the viewer realizes this quickly. I say this because this piece obviously has a story and if you miss the motion of the ship the story falls apart.

Our flag bearing friend doesn't even seem to be aware of the incoming menace. Again, this seems to take aware from the story. I did realize that if he were turned facing the ship you wouldn't have the opportunity to showcase his profile, which, btw, was well done. But you might have put him into a jumping run towards the lander which would have given you profile, action, and connection to the story.

I talk too much. I said you deserved the praise because conceptually this thing rocks! I just had to get my geek on and share my thoughts. Its not like I expect you to rework and resub. It has enough votes that my changes would never be worth the difference. But suppose you don't get a sale and you want to tweak it...ah, you get my point. I'd just like to see that ship get the same life you gave to the lander.

All that being said and probably scoffed at, I officially declare.....GMV

wow.. you definitely spent a lot of time thinking about this.. probably a lot more than i did. my entire thought behind this design was "astronauts find a spanish galleon on the moon." i did have a thought about how this was the real moon landing conspiracy but otherwise there's no real story.

now, as for your comments, let me clarify a few things. i suppose the lander is more detailed but that's mainly because there's more detail on it to begin with. without the detail i felt it would be difficult to recognize what it was. originally i had the lander larger and scaled it down, so i'm sure that added to the detail (or the illusion of it) as well. i actually spent longer on the ship.

as for the ship being in motion, it actually isn't, but now i can see how it might appear to be with cresting wave looking rocks at the front. it's supposed to look as though the ship plowed into the ground when it landed.

i really appreciate your thoughts and comments on this design and the time you put into thinking about it(not to mention your support). it's interesting to see my work through someone else's interpretation. worry not, i am scoff-free. my only regret is i wish i had finished it sooner, then it might be in the fog.

Moses parted the Red Sea as he was leading the Hebrews out of egypt, I think. AFAIK it's in most good bibles. The bad bibles leave the sex in too. Naughty bibles.
