Re: Meriana Smile

I was going for a classic 50's style pin-up look. I think it would look great on the side of a vessel of some kind! I should have punched the colors up a bit on this one but I'll do that next time.

Here is a link to a touched up version:
Merianna

Thanks for the compliments guys!

This is pretty neat. The sketchy style and the minimal colors look great. I think I could do without the squid going up the side, but it still has my vote.

Me too. The last time those goldfish got loose in an ocean they completely destroyed the ecology.

Something about tasty cheesy smiley snacks just doesn't go well with a marine environment.

It was salt-water chaos. Worse than the Exxon Valdez. And all because a careless human knocked a bag overboard... They breed like rabbits you know.

annnnd there it is. the expected rejection. sigh... I was warned that it was coming, but somehow... it still hurts. I'm SO not good with rejection. They make it all big and red and noticeable.

Resubmission, doing the shirt comp correctly this time, in T-minus 3 hours and 40 minutes and counting. It would be earlier, but my employer doesn't think that working on a woot shirt design is a good use of my time while on the clock.

sigh.. I'll never get those 16 votes back again...

Great design! It made me giggle and it looks great (2 qualities I look for in a t-shirt). Got my vote! I hope you win!

The Eel looks good, the fish is a bit awkward looking.

I personally am not into the sharp contrasting colors of yellow and orange on the royle

Re: ocean cuteness

The seaweed is always greener,
In somebody elses lake.

You dream about going up there,
But that'd be a big mistake.

Just look at the world around you,
Right here on the ocean floor.

Such wonderful things around you,
What more could you be looking for?

I think this one is definitely one of the funniest concepts. Really like the composition, too.

That second squid really recalls Jon Coulton's "I Crush Everything". Super cute!

Love the color scheme and how it is unique compared to most entries in this contest. Also like the idea of using the back of the shirt rather than the front.

lemonlover wrote:The only thing I don't like (and I mean this kindly) is where the focus of the shirt is! Dude - you are drawing attention to the gut area!

I understand what you are saying here but the only problem is if I do an aqarium then the theme of the shirt as the sea would be lost. I'll play around a little and see if I can do something cool in which the focus is moved upwards a bit.

Re: Sea Bass

Wow this is really creative, love the idea. Maybe some kind of lighter background elements would keep the black from blending in with the brown shirt? Either way, I really like this one.

I like the squid going up the side because I think it keeps the design from being too belly-heavy. I'm also glad you took out the whale.

Here's hoping this gets printed! And who knows, maybe that black on navy will turn out brilliantly!

I was having a hard time getting the look I wanted for the fish. I wanted it to look like it was backing away, while at the same time looking at the eel.

I agree that the colors are a bit strong, but they seem to work well in a campy batman kinda way.

I love the swirlies in her hair. Maybe higher up and on a different colored shirt, it would work better. Actually, I whole design made out of the swirlies would be fantastic. I'm on board with the swirlies, can you tell?

I really like this one. I'm a sucker for coloring like this and the bored look on the squid (octopus? jellyfish? it doesn't matter) is fabulous.

For some reason I'm really digging teal on navy lately.

Nice job.

I guess the most we can hope for is an HM and printed at a later date

Thank you for the compliments, and the crit. I'm still learning, so I'm happy to take the criticism.

I actually stopped watching woot derbies for a while because I've been busy with school, and I only found out today what the theme was... this is actually a mod of a shirt I never submitted waaay back in August, don't even remember what the theme was.
