The knit cap is what made me click it, but the stego is why I stayed. I don't know why but I really like the stego.

re: inspired by firefly

It's a pretty design, but yeah, some dots bursting out of some wispy curls does not equal fire or flies to me.

The dots should have little antennae or something ... this really bears no relation to the derby theme.

Re: Inspired By Mythbusters

In my opinion, this shirt would be better if you did a resub with a smaller picture higher up on the shirt, and think about a different color. ... But leave the thumb in the fist. It'll be like a little inside joke for all wooters.

You know what I love? How people gripe and complain about cutesy/video game shirts, and then when someone takes a more "artsy" approach to an idea suddenly they're all "I don't get it, it's not a generic in your face obvious reference."
On second thought, have decided that I can suffer the hip-widening effect of the placement. Will be both voting and buying. As this is now the only shirt in the fog I like.

sdsnowbrdr wrote:Then why submit it ?

Let's be honest, a lot of designers submit entries that they know of course will never hit the fog. While some of them are actually aiming for the fog, a lot of them just clearly submit for fun. Sometimes, people do it to get feedback as well and improve their art. While I understand what people are getting at here, it's also clear that Ramy's not the only who ever submits things just for fun ;)

Glad to see you're taking the feedback seriously though Ramy. I was so sad when your design got kicked out of the fog two weeks ago at the last second in that derby when all but the very top four of the top 5 designs were basically tied. However, I do believe that that particular design showed another side of you as an artist that I think is important for you to expand on. However, I also think that it is important to remember that an artist has to truly FEEL their work and want to do something in a certain style. Therefore, Ramy, if you want to keep submitting in the same style, I think you have every right to. People will get tired of it and probably stop voting for it eventually, but I also don't feel like trying to humiliate an artist into changing their style is productive in any way (contrary to what some on this site clearly believe). Constructive feedback is important, and listening to constructive feedback is also important, but when it comes down to it, an artist has the right to express themselves in whatever way he or she feels is most appropriate. If you don't like it, you have just as much of a right as the rest of us to resist that "I'd want one" button!

jessmah8 wrote:I completely disagree with your statement. Almost every single person I know knows about the Chinese zodiac. Many of them will notice the error and point it out. Like people point out errors on an essay or a roadsign, people will point out errors on a t-shirt. But then again, I could be from areas where people are more knowledgeable about the world and different legends.

I concur :] The first thing I did when I looked at the shirt was go through all the animals. Of course people on the street aren't going to stop you and yell at you for wearing a shirt that has the Chinese Zodiac in the wrong order.

It is there, it will get pointed out. Unless there's a footnote on the back of the shirt saying the chicken will pass the dog, I really don't feel like explaining why the chicken is behind to everyone.

Other than that, good job. I think re-interpretation-wise (xD haha) it's the best one out there.

Here Here!

Seriously, woot. Put a moratorium on this idiocy. Force people to make a great shirt without relying on a video game or an internet meme. Make a "create something interesting without borrowing from pop culture, you know, like an actual artist can do, you slackers" derby. Please. Stop. This. Nonsense. It isn't wearable and it isn't interesting and no amount of buyers can make it so. You know that. Man the hell up.

The thing is, fireflies do not glow on their entire bodies, just their 'butts' - The antennae do not glow, and therefore they shouldn't appear.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Firefly_composite.jpg..

As for the wispy curls, I'll readily admit I didn't originally see it as fire, but on the other hand, it's just a re-enforcement, since there are already firefly looking things all over the shirt.
