Yes, a Rastafarian lion. This is the essence of art deco.

Re: The Baker

This is the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, Texas. I was born in Mineral Wells and lived there for 24+ years. My family has been there for 4+ generations. My parents still live there and I visit pretty often (only 20 miles away from me... hahaha). This building was built in the late 20's, and while not technically Art Deco, I tried my best to make it that way. This building still towers over the small town, even though it's falling apart. It's been vacant since the early 70's, but it's still a beautiful building.

Google some images of it and see what it was like back in the day....

Suits the theme of Art Deco nicely, and the color scheme is quite pleasant.

Re: Flight of the Red Balloon

Recently saw Flight of the Red Balloon, obviously inspired by it...then I threw it into the art deco style with the sunburst and gradients. This is my first effort using halftones.

Please let me know what you think!

Re: Art Deco Hell Train

Art deco- hell style. When you're in hades, you need to get from torture site to torture site as quick as possible. Likely it's got a mass transit system.

This engine is loosely based on the Commodore Vanderbilt, the first locomotive to receive aerodynamic cladding and one of the two trains to provide service from NYC to Chicago. Gorgeous train.

They see me Victrolin’, they hatin’

1920s and 1930s, characterized by bold geometric forms and simple composition ... characterized by streamlined, rhythmic patterns ... foliage and sun ... angular geometric shapes, zigzags, bold colors, molded or faceted ... design motifs and details are applied to modern objects and materials ... geometric designs adapted to mass production

The period of this entry is correct for the 1920s and 1930s. I would shoot for 1920 to 1928 with this one. The Victrola gramophones are styled in art deco; the horn itself is styled moreso. The fedora matches. The border is distinctively art deco. The rays from a club light represent the sun found in art deco prints. The two color usage matches lithographs I have found, the yellow color not being in the lines slightly gives it the feel of a mass produced lithograph print.

Enough justification! Jay Gatsby hired this DJ all the time back in ’22. Those beats were so fresh! Sssnep!

Some know that this is a re-sub, mostly because of the shirt comp size. Secondly, for an explanation. Take a look at this shirt, it is exactly the same in concept to another well done shirt in this derby. I came up with this on my own, posed for the shot, had 100% to do with it. I'm sad to see the idea existed already, I don't know how often this happens. To me, it was profound to think of it and execute it on my own. I did a diligent search of t-shirts and found none that came close.

Re: APE DECO

This doesn't really look art deco to me. The bananas are the closest thing to it. Its probably because nothing is geometric in this. The symmetry of the design helps it feel art deco, but I don't think that it really is.

What a great shirt! Simple, geometric, and subtle. It retains all the essence of the art deco movement as well as showing signs of constructivism and possible elements of futurism. You, my friend, would have been right at home in the roaring twenties with Raoul Lachenal and Maurice Dufrene. Kudos, mon frère, you've done a wonderful job here. GMV!

The idea itself is not so ground breaking that it would make me think you had to steal the idea to come up with the design.

Great colors, great design, stuck to the theme of the derby, and differs from existing shirts enough in design and feel that it warrants my vote.
