I'm surprised this isn't higher. Then again, I'd honestly have a hard time reconciling whether I would feel something like this should fare better than something like Fable's fox entry...hrmm...

Cute. No check.

This shirt is just extremely wearable and anybody would be able to understand it from a room away. But I like simple shirts and since I wasn't able to get Resist, I must have this one!

This is a signature. You are reading it. Thank you for your time.

The stupidity of the masses is showing with this fog.

This deserves to print as well as others, but the masses win even with their tiny little minds...

I'm voting for this solely because I want to see what Woot does, in reference to the color issue.

Is that so wrong? :[

I've never calibrated my monitor and such but I'm really surprised that people are seeing this shirt as brown because at least on my screen it's very clearly olive. Kind of funny how what you see isn't necessarily what everyone else is seeing.

It is a true injustice at shirt.woot that wearable works of art like this are falling out of the fog (not to mention a 4th place finish for that excellent steampunk entry).

The guys at the new SONIC drive-in told me to have a supersonic day. And I did!

I think its quite a good design. The Unicorns have great coloring and shading on them. The Water is done in a swirly Impressionistic style. The shirt clearly shows some great emotion and has a good concept.

It'd be in the top of the hotness and fog right now if it had some cute anime animals with no hands waving at them in the Ark. :P

I have to say, I was bummed when this did not place during the art deco derby. In my opinion, it is the coolest design in the honorable mention contest... And I've personally reviewed/seen alot of artwork over the years as an animation, creative and art director. Great job and good luck.

Yea, anime style just isn't for me. What is wrong with unicorns on a brown shirt? Are unicorns on brown shirts overdone or something? I surely haven't seen it done much, if at all. And I don't think it says anywhere in the bible that unicorns didn't make the ark; it is an old fable more likely. (by the way, it is ripped, not "riped") I'm sorry you don't like my design, but thank you for taking your time to post why you aren't voting for my shirt. Luckily it is just your opinion that it is a bad shirt design, not a fact. ;)

Drakxxx wrote:Thanks for all the support on this one guys.

If this by chance makes it to print, I'll certainly be willing to adjust the sails on the boat up top. I drew the final line art for this from start to finish without taking a look at a boat for accuracy.

This is a beautiful collab! Drakxxx, your line art is incredible and would make a pretty sweet poster, as usual. And Zenne, the color palette is spectacular, muted yet striking at the same time.

While the arm has definite striations, I don't look at them as muscle (or macabre in the slightest), but as the water's refraction. It fits the remainder of the design, IMO.

The sails don't bother me too much; yes, they are facing the stern - but unless someone comes up to peer at my chest, they aren't going to see that.

If we assume that there are additional crow's nests hidden by the main mast and mizzen mast, we could pretend it was being blown backward. However, if you want to be really nit-picky, the sails to the stern were generally lateen (triangular) rather than square.

In any case, I would wear it as is...

It's not a "riped off" ("ripped-off?") Bible story. It's a humorous reference to one. Tweaking something that is really prominent in common lore and is familiar to everyone is not ripping someone off; it's a form of humor. That's like saying that Mark Twain's "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is ripping off the Bible; it's called parody.

I think this was a clever play on the Almost derby (even if the idea has been done before). I like the color choices, even on a brown shirt ;)

If I may make a few comments on the execution... and please don't take this as a flame, I just wish to offer constructive criticism.

I love horses, and the depiction here bothers me. The hind legs seem horse-like, yet the fore legs more stubby and pony-like. The eye lids/lashes are weird. Also, the tail is an extension of the spinal column with a nerve bundle extending out; whereas, here it just seems that hair springs out of the backside.

I like where you were going with the water, it just seems a bit hurried to me. I love the style of the ark (though, a biblically inaccurate portrayal) and would like to see more of that style from you.

Moi aussi. Even though I normally don't do a lot of yellow.

There should be a derby where the cute shirts win! *ahem* I mean, a derby where girls get two votes to spend on each shirt. Or something. The gender bias here makes me sad sometimes. So often, even in the doubletake derby, the shirts I'd wear end up at the bottom.

Re: Inspired by: Monk

Wow! Impressive research Dankstick!!! I really think this looks fantastic on the original comp. The olive woot template color makes the monk look a bit weird; whereas, the brown woot template color completely washes out the background.

I know that both actual t-shirt colors are very different from the woot template, so I'm torn. The actual brown is lighter than the template and the actual olive is darker. It would probably look good on either... Okay, Dankstick, your next assignment is to display what the design would look like on the actual brown and olive! ;)
