AdderXYU wrote:So, if people are not supposed to vote with the theme in mind, why does woot give themes?

Woot gives themes to help give people ideas, and to have an outline. The derbies (to Woot) don't seem to be about how on theme they are, just how much people like/vote for them. The theme does do much, just you can't draw a picture of a bear in a theme about kittens, but you could draw a jaguar or some such thing. Woot only loosely follows their themes, as you have seen. And I know you think that they should be more strict about the themes, and I'm not arguing with you about it, just answering your question

And the theme does help with ideas, because have you ever been in school where they simply tell you to write a 5 paragraph essay? I hated when my teachers did something like that. Ideas come a lot easier when you have some sort guide.

Comparing a bloody T-shirt to crystal meth is just embarrassing. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I don't even know what shirt this discussion is dealing with and are thus not comparing it to anything. I'm not even discussing shirts specifically, I'm responding to the idea that someone wanting something is the de facto definition on what is good. Because someone wants a shirt, movie, car, drug, anything doesn't make it good, it just means that thing appeals to them in some way. I don't think the idea that the person posted is correct, and was simply explaining why.

It's really a shame this didn't print. This is clever, well drawn, original and very very well executed. Rare to see those things together nowadays.

And if your history teacher told you to write a 10 page paper on development, and you decide to write about photographic technique, because it involves developing, you'd be shocked to get an F, wouldn't you?

I would also like to point out that one can't argue with stupid.

This goes both ways btw, for those frustrated with people who are being elitist, and for the elitist who are frustrated with the non-elitist.

Agreed. If the theme is just a muse to get the creative juices flowing, there should be no "off topic" rejections. The fact that Shirt.Woot does reject for this reason (though, frustratingly inconsistent) means that the theme is intended to be followed.

I really want to revisit this one after the 60 days are up. I think it would look better as a wrap-around print.

Does anyone know if woot's hold is 60 days from the original derby(in this case "The Sea") or from the do-over?

I'm kinda curious about that too.

Very pretty design by the way. Love the composition.

Hi Stellar! Yep I know what you mean. Been too busy lately with work and all to design. But, I have been here silently voting past few derbies. Thanks for the comment though it seem the cranes are not bringing in the votes. I guess it explains why it is in here on the double take now and not printing LOL. Might take it to another site and see what happens with it not sue yet.

Thanks again all for voting for the cranes!!!

It took me a minute to get it. Then I went 'Oh...Joe...coffee...a pun.'

I definitely think it should be printed over some of the others in the fog, though. It's very wearable and a lot of people will like it.

Reminds me a bit of the ninja turtles shirt in that regard.

strange that you picked that shirt of all to reference because I love this shirt and the tmnt shirt was the last winning shirt that I actually wanted to buy(but it sold out)

Stop voting for shirts that you would never buy or wear, it says "I'd want one" not "I like this"!

I still like it, but the Olive was better.

To cmdixon2 - What do you think they will title this shirt? Do you have any suggestions? I think a Monk reference would be great.

What if they had been studying the history of photography and were, in fact, talking about the photo development process?

I agree with your point though.

I agree. I preferred the olive too. I'm still confident it will print well on brown.

As for the title and write up? I'm hoping for a Monty Python reference.

No problem. Great design. I'll finally buy a shirt off of woot once this is printed, being either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I know this is above 4th place since it kept switching that spot between the Monk and the Squirrel shirt.

ProfHotpants wrote:This shirt was selected for the Double Take Derby with the belief that it was on a Brown shirt color. It's probably our fault for not going deep into the threads of each design that gets nominated for an HM/Double-Take, but we definitely don't want to sell a product that looks radically different from what people have seen in the Derby and voted on. If this shirt does place and qualifies for a print, it will be printed on Brown

I've only seen one maybe two people in the thread who even remotely thought the comp looked brown and one of them was woot staff.....

I've been looking forward to buying this shirt all week and I probably still will but the switch to brown from what is clearly olive is a HUGE letdown.....I really hope they don't go forward with brown though it's woot so when do we expect them to get anything right nowadays.
