Re: When Skies are Gray (Resub)

My wife, when she was little would cry when people sang this song at the part where it goes "please don't take my sunshine away."
I love that she is drawing a sun! Great job!

Thank you! I was excited when I thought of it. If you look in the derby thread, there are some different versions, and some people gave some more suggestions that made it what it is now.

4Rovel67 wrote:I think the rainbow thing has been overdone on woot. This is pretty cute but kinda cliche looking at other woot shirts. So I'm kinda disappointed.

Hmmm... I guess I remember 3 rainbow shirts, a unicorn eating one, a fruit rainbow machine and I guess one with some animals in the ocean and a rainbow (seemed less like a rainbow is the subject). I'm sure there are others, but that's all I knew of and they seemed different enough... I liked that this takes the real concept and puts it into another form, but sorry you are dissapointed... (though not totally sure why you are, since I'm not even close to winning;)

Vote!

yeah, scratchiness adds nothing to this shirt. Maybe if the theme was 'scratchy designs', you could do that again, but otherwise I see no point.

Nobody is really acknowledging that little bit of information. Mob Rule states that Pluto is still in fact a planet, despite current Astronomical Repression!

re: the last day

You know, my first thought wasn't that it was inaccurate. My first thoughts were "that sun looks like an orange being pulled apart" and "how touching, to be sitting and watching the Last Day with your dog"... i guess the design isn't for everyone, but it clicked with my personality. And I consider myself a big fan of science.

I voted for it. And I have a pretty good feeling I'll be able to buy it this weekend, too.

Re: bloody sunday

I have a suggestion to the designer to make this one a little funnier. The vampire should be wearing the typical Dracula cape with the high collar & have white sunscreen on his nose, in other words, doing everything a vampire would have to do to protect himself for a day at the beach... then the sign should show "no Dracula capes"... More irony!

Re: Solar Powered

hehe i love ramyb e-fights, they provide good perspective...

ive been wooting for a relatively short amount of time, and i have bought plenty of shirts.

problem is, there are a ton of shirts I would much rather buy than most of the stuff fogged. and every other derby contains a ramyb shirt. so naturally im going to criticize him.

i think some of his shirts are decent, some of them arent. however they do have a nice polish to them, so props for that.

i have less of a ramyb issue than i have with the voting issue. too many woot accounts are voting for fogged items as if fogged items are the only ones even viable for a win.

dont vote for the fog, vote for shirts u want to buy.

i really wish they would change it so only accounts that buy twice a month can vote, the 1 shirt prerequisite is wayyy too abusable.

im not saying ramyb is rigging the voting, im just saying id rather wear some of the unfogged items.

this design for the derby is meh, im still figuring out how it got so many votes when there are a ton of other shirts just like it, and this one duznt particularly shine.

RamyB's best shirt was the one with the playing cards, and that one didnt win.

i hate you guys.

Wow! Thank you all for the incredible response! It was quite a surprise to see it was so well received.

xtinaftw wrote:I love it! You did an awesome job making it look like more than 6 colors. I see you used a green though so I'm wondering why the earth is blue and orange.

I tried a several variations with green as well, but the way I was doing the colors, it just looked muddy unless I used to fine a screen and risked making it unprintable. Also many of the pictures of earth from space show more of brown/desert color than green. Plus just trying to keep things simple. ;)

Hmm... there is a similarly. But I would say they are pretty different. Obviously in style, but also that is about a bunch of angry planets rejecting Pluto, where mine is about the Sol disowning one of her 'children'. In mine, only Mars is angry. But everyone knows that Mars is always angry anyway. ;)

xxchange wrote:Heh, Mercury's all happy and clueless. The sun melted away its brain cells, mmm?

Heh... and Mercury figures, being the closest planet, she has nothing to worry about. ;) (that, and she never really got to know Pluto anyway)

trippregan wrote:Nobody is really acknowledging that little bit of information. Mob Rule states that Pluto is still in fact a planet, despite current Astronomical Repression!

Forget mob rule, Illinois and New Mexico both created laws that establish the Pluto is a planet in their states.

Again, thanks everyone for the amazing response. And for those who haven't read it, The Pluto Files by Neil deGrasse Tyson is great book and a fun read.

Cheers,
ZG

Rilke: German poet, arguably the best German poet
Dinesen: wrote a very famous short story collection, "Seven Gothic Tales"

Both literary icons in world literature. Both quoted in my sig. because the quotes refer to wine. Both awesome enough to quote.

"If drinking is bitter, change yourself to wine." -Rainer Maria Rilke

"Champagne is a very kind and friendly thing on a rainy night." -Isak Dinesen

"There are many ways to the recognition of truth; Burgundy is one of them." -Isak Dinesen

Re: The Missing Sun...

I really love her face! If I had to nitpick with you, I'd have to say that I feel like the rest of the elements within the image (the flowers, shinies, and clouds) are seemingly disjointed from the figure itself. Maybe it would have been nice to see the flower pattern in her kimono instead? Or even just repeat the lovely flower shapes in her hair into the background with the clouds (those flowers are much nicer than the sakura types floating).

Beware the cream shirt! I learned this the hard way.. hoho.
