Why would you think that? This amazingly unique design element is unprecedented and looks nothing like this completely unrelated shirt as well.

Re: Aurora Borealis - Mystery of the Northern Lights

Really tough to figure out what's going on in this shirt. If it wasn't called "northern lights", I would think it was a bunch of random color splotches. These shirts (and any, for that matter) really should not count on knowing the title to understand them. That, and your dots in the background over the mid-range of the torso are clearly lined up in some kind of matrix. It doesn't look organic at all, which is sort of the one thing it would have to be to capture the Aurora Borealis.

The guys at the new SONIC drive-in told me to have a supersonic day. And I did!

SailorButterfly wrote:I don't believe this is supposed to be an obvious joke, like the crayons are. The main reason there are cats instead of people? Because voters have shown that they would rather wear animals than people on their shirts. It's as simple as that...no deep meaning or ill intent to it.
These are well-drawn cats, too. Not overly cute and super-deformed or anything like that.

I love it.

That's basically what Adder said. Cute animals = votes. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing (using cats adds a certain "huh?" factor, like with those communist dinosaurs), but I agree with him that the crayons have a stronger concept and thus makes for a better shirt. Not that this one is bad.

This should be placed on the bottom left of the shirt and the steam should rise to the chest. I think it would look pretty cool but I've never seen the effect before.

when i say lazy, i mean lazy in conceptualizing. i mean, its a fedora...
yeah, thats it. granted it could be seen as a symbol of noir, it could also be seen as a symbol of prohibition, or mobsters, or FDR. or the FBI during the 1940s and 50s. im sorry, but there is just no way in hell i would ever want to wear a shirt with a simple illustration of a fedora on it.

arcsus wrote:What color is this supposed to be on? Looks like asphalt with a green shade. Or is it black with a green shade? Either way, am I the only one thrown off by the green shade in the comp?

Pretty sure it's supposed to be navy, but yeah the artist must have greenified the highlights.

Anyhoo needless to say this is ridiculously similar to Music Is Life. Same artist or no, if KDeuce's recent Urban Painter rehash didn't fly, neither should this.

EDIT: It also seems to be outside the printable area. Those florals are clearly entering the sleeve on the model, and are pushing the sides of the shirt on the comp. Tallness-wise if that is not ON the collar, it is way too close to it regardless.

Re: The Mystery of the Opposite Gender

Nice clean simple style here. I did want to point out that on the shirt the composition looks off-center because the thought-bubbles aren't evenly spaced. Minor detail, but it did pop out to me.

Well, I don't think it's the same thing at all.

These are obviously over cute animals trying to get votes:

I don't think the cats in this design are here for the same reason. They're here just because human figures on shirts don't go over well. They're not even trying to be "cute".

It's 2 separate things to me. They don't have to be to you, but they are to me.

I believe the first is actually someone making a point about the mystery of the steampunk derby and not a serious entry.

I think the second one makes a sort of "Curious George" reference with the monkeys, plus it ties in the animal with the concept by flowing the characters up and down the tree. It's not a cute animal just because.

Again, I didn't say that using the cats was a bad thing at all. You're right and I agree with you - animals are more popular than people. It works. I still think that the crayons have a stronger concept, but that's just me.
