Well my point was that while it COULD be mystery, it could just as easily be anything else. Nothing in the design suggests "Mystery" specifically. As someone else said, the book in the design could just as easily be a Western.

I kinda like it, but the design just seems to be too huge for the shirt.

Interesting, but it looks like you might have a gradient on the bottom of the shirt.

Greedy and pandering is not the same as successful. Thankfully.

The problem is with such a lose definition of text, any visual object or visual depiction could be considered text. Most symbols people use and draw can be found some where in the Unicode system, including shapes. Since I can type a triangle (9651) dose that mean no shirt can contain triangles?

The idea of not allowing any single symbols or characters is inconsistent with design as all images are fundamentally symbols them self. Text is different from pure symbols (like pi) in that it has a different purposes and methodology. Text is the combination of symbols to produce an ordered set of words which translate into ideas. Where as symbols are combination of shapes and possible colors with direct physical translation to ideas.

eHalcyon wrote:You say that as though there's only one girl in the world.

Just because they figure out that it's a girl doesn't mean they know WHICH girl - a pretty important detail, I think.

But again, this design doesn't take it INTO the mystery genre. It could just as easily fit into pretty much any other genre as well, which is why it should be considered off topic.

But you do know which girl. That one.

If this was a real life situation, you would be able to pick that girl out of a lineup, because you saw her shoot the guy. You can argue that she is in silhouette, but I don't believe that is a mystery element. That is a "I can't draw non-deformed features" element.

Text is not different from pi because IT IS NOT A PURE SYMBOL. IT IS A LETTER IN THE GREEK ALPHABET. PLEASE READ EVERYONE ELSES RESPONSES AND LEARN SOMETHING.

A triangle, on the other hand, is a shape. I can type a dog in Milestones, if Milestones even still exists anywhere. Does that mean I can't draw a dog because it is text? No. That is stupid. To the same degree, a dash is just a line. You can't reject for a line. Lines are important. But you CAN reject if a dash is used as a minus sign, or if you made ASCII art out of hyphens.

Let's put it this way. If you could logically see it in a book, it is text. That includes punctuation and brackets and every single letter and number and other languages that use different alphabets. There. That is the definition used. Nothing this derby has been rejected for text that actually is worthy of existing anyway. So shut up and think about what you've done. The class expects an apology when we meet tomorrow.

I dont really see anything mysterious about this shirt, the girl blew the guys brains out. End of story. Im pretty sure thats considered 'obscene' as far as legality is concerned in more than one district of the united states. I think its a great idea, but executed poorly (no pun intended).

hegemonwiggins wrote:Full disclosure: I didn't vote for this design. I won't buy it. I think it's creative and fits the theme but does not come out well on a t-shirt.

That being said, your comment was uncalled for Kyle. You are clearly not part of the potential buying community. Demanding attention is juvenile. The artist has been respectful, responded to Woot's request, and has not allowed him/herself to get dragged into sniping. Please increase your personal level of discourse. Your comments do not benefit the site.

I completely disagree. The people on the site are his potential buying community. The criticisms that have been posted about how the shirt will print, possible artistic inspiration from another shirt, etc. are not positive criticisms, but are constructive nevertheless. However, the artist excluded the "haters" who for the most part have constructive things to say.

The book isn't a Western or a mystery. It's that one about that guy that lacks artistic talent, breaks the derby rules, has cheated in the past, and still continually wins. It's one of my favorites, along with The Sound and the Fury and The Sun Also Rises.

APerfectC wrote:Yes, I count 7,

If you change the color of the shirt to white and take out what would be white on the ground and just leave the items that are white on the left side of the shirt alone, you would be able to cut it down to six. Or you could just remove the red right above the flea salesman's eye, which seems to be the only place that you chose to use this color.

Heh, it's actually only six, and I've got the six layers in my PSD file to prove it. ;)

The colors are:
-Brown (no black)
-Red (only one shade)
-Orange
-Green
-White
-Pink

The red about the flea salesman's eye is the same as all the other red in this illustration. And thanks, I'm glad you like it. ^_^

Touche.

@EndGameOmega - obviously a line has to be drawn. Things that are obviously just pictures - triangles, squares, happy faces - don't count as text. But symbols with meaning - letters, numbers, punctuation, foreign language characters - DO count as text. π falls under the categories of "letters" and "foreign language characters".
