It's asphalt although the comp in the bottom right corner has a slight lavender tinge to it. Not very much though.

Reminds me of this illustration an artist I know did for the Black Keys.

Regardless, its a really nice design. I'm happy to see something like this doing well in the derby.

eHalcyon wrote:When you submit to Woot, they automatically convert it to jpg. If you don't submit in jpg then the conversion really lowers the quality. Here's the checklist:

1. RGB mode
2. JPG format
3. no compression on your end
4. correct resolution (580x580px for the comp, 240x240px for the design detail)

The Jpg looked fine and when uploaded also got compressed weird too, but oh well. I thought it used to be 600x600 for the comp, that may have been what got me.

The question is...will this shirt come patchouli scented? That might seal the deal.

I'd really like to see better type treatment in this derby. This shirt only one example of many with fonts that don't fit the image and set the type in very un-interesting way.

camoor wrote:This is really good, it should have more votes. Sadly, I suspect there's no love for the violin.

Thank you very much! This is the first derby where I've actually managed to work in a violin, after trying and failing to do so in at least half of the recent derbies.

And I'd love to get the votes, but I'm really doing it for a) the learning experience, and b) for the love of getting bad puns out there on the intertubes. And, of course, to paraphrase Gilda Radnor, because I think there should be more violins on shirts these days.

Clearwater, Florida is a township pretty much wholly owned by Scientology. It's Scientology's headquarters.

I hate to be that guy, but all this is is a reworking of his Panda shirt from derby #98 that got rejected. Don't believe me?

The Hear no evil panda sure looks like the drummer one.

I've been to their New York headquarters. I couldn't figure out who was more strange. The Scientologists or the people out front protesting them dressed up as the main character from V for Vendetta and assorted Lord of the Rings characters.

I think some of these shirts need to be marketed to current bands. This one looks great and really fits the theme. Yes the font is bad but that can be tweaked.

Heh. Naw. I just really hope it prints.

Though, the more I look at it, the freakier their eyes look. Hmm.

Re: New Utopia

I think that the "nu" is supposed to be sort of in the "air" and the "shadow" is supposed to appear as though it's being cast behind the letters as though there were a light source coming from above but at a 45 degree angle...? still, it's kind of awkward.
