Not my favorite Edgar design, but one I would be happy to wear.

aw, thanks, ramy!

I definitely like this a lot better! I like the changes to color (and shirt color) and definitely placement works better here.

I'm in for one!

They're just ink. It's kind of like a posterization, no complicated halftones or gradients.

This is great. I'm guessing it's on heather gray? Sigh... Here's yet another great case for why we need silver or regular gray (though Jaden would trade a kidney to get purple).

Raikus wrote:I don't know. I have a shirt with tin man laying the smack down on C-3PO in my closet that says otherwise. Of course you never know with Woot, but if they reject something like this for the derby I think they'd have to follow it up by rejecting all other likenesses (Alien, Chewy, Star Trek emblems, etc.).

The difference is that other shirts are achieving parody. This one might be attempting parody, however, it is not very strong, both in idea and execution. You can barely tell (or at least *I* could barely tell) that there is a stoplight in there. That aside, so what? There's a traffic light and two ships are obeying it. The artist needs to take it to the next level and clue us in on something hilarious or unexpected that happens as a result of this traffic stop.

Example: If you could see Kessel in the background and in the foreground you could see Han and Chewie looking frustratedly at a stopwatch. "Gah! Looks like no new Kessel run record today!" Then you have some defensible parody.

Re: Great Unknown

So...did you do this completely on your own or did you use an original image and them photoshop filter it? It's a neat design, as I mentioned before in an earlier post, but the more I think about it, I really, really hope this is 100% completely your creation and not from some pre-existing artwork/image/render that you didn't create.

Re: What's Really Out There

Turtle + Elephants + World = Terry Pratchett reference. This seems to be so obviously hinting at the Discworld... only the world on the shirt is round. As a big TP fan, I can dig on this design.

No, turtle + elephants + world = ancient myth that Terry Pratchett also used.

Thanks for your concern, and your support! Your hopes are completely fulfilled, I created this design totally from scratch, start to finish. I referenced some photos of Saturn and Uranus just to get proportions for the rings, but everything in my composition is 100% original from me.

And in case there is still any doubt, I created this design in photoshop, not illustrator. So that is why it may seem like I just ripped off another image. Not the case here.

I am quite glad to hear that! Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes with images it is difficult to know whether the "inspiration" was purely the artist's creativity or perhaps...another artist's previous work simply modified. Anyways, great work, and now that my concerns have been rendered null and void, this shirt looks wonderful and deserves the fog.

Wasn't making a dig at Pratchett, sir. Just commenting that he didn't come up with the idea. Like many great writers, he draws from the rich mythology of our world.

Thanks in advance for checking out my 1st entry this week. I ended up going with the Navy.. mainly because I have never used Navy for a design before... and Woot seems to have a lot of black/navy shirts they need to move (this the space theme).

Yay, you moved the Earth! I assume the moon horizon didn't work out as planned? Oh well, much better now anyways.

Re: Negative Space

Awesome idea/title/colors.

I would shrink down the design so that it fully fits on the shirt though. I will be rejected for being outside the printing area since you have the stars actually going over the edge of your shirt comp. Designs generally need to be at least 1 inch from all seams.

I feel that. It's all good. I just saw the shirt and my mind went straight to Great A'Tuin World Turtle. I guess different people will interpet it different ways. Either way you see it, this is a solid design. I am actually a little suprised by how many good designs there are already. I expected much more out of the last derby, and it seems like this one has already surpassed the last in quality designs submitted.
