Love the concept, just not the execution.
It could be so much more lego-ey...
too simple

Great Concept, but I think there should be more writing and take out the map box thing. I'd probably still buy it. I love that movie!

Agreed. LOVE the concept, but would want a lot more of the writing to consider getting it.

I want this sooo much...and keep the WWID. That pushes it from funny to genius as far as I'm concerned.

spanishmel wrote:I suppose it isn't a big deal, it isn't breaking any sort of artistic boundary. I wasn't trying to re-invent the wheel here, I was trying to emulate a very well known and treasured tradition in tattooing. To me, there is a lot of beauty and significance in traditional cultural artworks (in this case tattoos)...I created this design as a tribute. I also enjoy the challenge of trying to create something consistent with a pre-existing style. I had fun making it.

It's beautiful, I think your style is right on point and the colors are expertly chosen. I also appreciate that you didn't bow to the masses by incorporating a gimmick or one-liner joke. Definately deserves more votes, and you have mine for sure.

Probably won't be rejected now because of its location in the fog of war. Wouldn't have made it this far.

Although I'm glad it didn't get rejected I was surprised because she's topless.

Not something I would wear but nice drawing!

I think this might be one of my favourites of yours yet. Love the colours and style.

Also, I'm crazy in love with your Jazz design at Goodjoe (esp. on cranberry). I really hope to see that one printed! GL!

Like your Koi design. I've always loved a good design that has a story to bring it full circle.

P.S. Thanks for the heads up with the design in the signature area. =)

I like the design a lot, not a fan of heather gray. Placement should be higher and to the left shoulder, too! Very clever though good luck.

a. Your gradients are too fine to print.
b. You don't have it on a shirt comp.

Fix these and resubmit?

Edit: c. How is this on topic? Explain?

hananoheiwa wrote:Since I was one who commented in the forum, I'll give you my opinion of the changes...

I guess I pushed it over the line a little when I re-did the tattoos, but like I said I was getting some feedback that indicated people weren't feeling like they could relate to such a bold design, not to mention such an abstract tattoo. I changed it, for better or worse, because I thought I should adhere to the whims of the woot community for once.

I'm unbelievably new to making shirt designs; I usually just do illustrations, so I'm still working on learning to create wearable designs. And besides, even though it does seem like a rather feminine shirt now, I guess I thought guys might still be interested because it does have a chick on the front. And if not, then I'm sure there are plenty of girls whom they can buy this shirt for, or plenty of girls who might like this design. Originally though my whole idea was to have a little edginess in it, but I guess that sort of got lost with the tattoo change.

It's just rather difficult to come up with designs that this community here likes. Some days they like cute stuff, some days they are abhorred by it. Other days it's "yayy abstract - love that", and then of course the next it's, "uggggh I hate everything on woot".

Thanks though hananoheiwa for taking the time to write your comments. I want to really hear how people view the designs, especially if I end up changing them as drastically as this one, so thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Re: Yeah, thats what it really says.

to everyone who thinks it should be a human and a robot:
consider, if it was two humans, one an asian tattoo artist and the other a caucasian tourist or something, and the artist was tattooing some sort of chinese character or whatever, the joke would make sense. even though they're both human. since humans have various languages.

and these robots are clearly very different. so it's not absurd to think they have different 'languages'

Hey Striker... this is really cute! One thing though, I think I would like it better without the 'born to jump' tattoo (looks a little unmatching with the rest of the design).
