Re: Derby Winners = Bags of Win

Amazing work. Great homage and I think it also stands on it's own. GMV!

Eh, first time entering, things are bound to happen. I'll know better next time. I should have just resubmitted when I saw other people getting banned instead of waiting.

Or I guess I could have kept the original up and submitted an altered version that I was sure followed the rules. Is that allowed, having more than one version of your design entered at the same time? Or is it frowned upon? Can any one tell me any practices I should avoid?

Thanks Xanzibar,

I used the dinosaur thing, minus the sheep... wasn't sure how that would work out.

I agree this is definitely an improvement, just wish I would have submitted this friday to give it more of a chance.

I did what they said 580x580... and the woot in the mirror is not changed.. it just got squeezed when i loaded it.

Yes, it should be 580x580px. If you had it all correct when uploading, it should have been fine. Did you "squeeze" it yourself when sizing down to 580x580? Your black background fills the entire square area so I don't see how it could have been a problem on Woot's end.

Re: your earlier question, yellow background (or black, even) is allowed according to the rules.

You can submit multiple versions of a design to the same derby. People often do this when they really can't decide between two or more colour schemes. The main problem is that the tactic can potentially split your votes (i.e. some people only vote for the version they like better when they would have voted for the other one if it was the only one available). For that reason, people often let the multiple versions gather votes for about a day and remove all but the most popular before the 24 hour window is closed (you can remove an entry from the contest within 24 hours of submission).

You can check the links in my signature for lots of derby tips. Practices to avoid... don't comment on a bunch of designs just to advertise your own entry.

Nice pattern, but the yellow blobby bits near the swooshes ruin it for me.

Re: The Crown

I like this design, there is something in the style with the colors that is appealing. Has a 70s feel perhaps?
Though it would be nice to see it on the bag.
I'm also confused to what that black shape in the corner is. Someone said alligator - I thought it was a hand making bunny ears, which didn't make sense, at least not to me;)

Thanks! I didn't get to look around the derby that well since I was so late so I am relieved there isn't a similar idea out there, at least that I've seen so far!

studio1172 wrote:Rejected because of photo? I used a photo that I took, adjusted it and separated it into two colors. It is part of the way that I have designed for years. I assure you that this design is 100% mine from start to finish and could have printed without a hitch. Both colors had a proper trap, no crazy overlays, or halftones. Nice solid shapes that would have burned nicely on a screen or plate for printing.

This is quite disappointing. For this style is how I do some designs. I take photos of the elements for some of my work. But everything I do is in vector format and can separate with ease for printing. I have done this for various clients, posters, and shirts, cd designs, coporate marketing, and mailing products. I have had no problem printing them. Maybe someone can clarify for me what is wrong.

I wonder if the print file had been reviewed?

Anyway, I appreciate those that voted for this design. I will take it and use it for a different application. Maybe DBH or somewhere else. I think it would make a cool shirt with just a little adjustment.

Was the photo it was based on a stock photo, or did you take it from something? In that situation there could be licensing issues.

Yes I did. I've submitted it as a T before. If it can't win a T, then maybe it can win a bag!

The shirt is done all in half-tones with the shirt.woot blue color - it's more apparent on the larger version. I did everything with vectors because I don't have my tablet at the moment, but everything should be printable as far as I am aware.

I don't know enough about the tech to say why this could be happening, but it seems to be happening to an awful lot of people this week. That suggests to me that maybe it is something on the Woot end that's going wrong.

But again: not a tech-head, so take that with a grain of salt. Or silicon, maybe, in this case.
