Re: The Tee Truck's Here!

As usual, your design is awesome. GMV and I think that puts you in a tie for first. Best of luck. I think this is my favorite of all of them I have seen thus far. Really nice job capturing the feel of that era. And even the subtle touches are spot on (for instance, raising the cheekbone a bit on the girl silhouette so that you can tell she is smiling). Great work!

For the sake of good design, and creativity, rules will always be broken. And a really good design will still get through. Good luck! I think it's awesome you did it anyway.

Great job! GMV and thank you for your comment on mine. Much appreciated. I especially like the work on the town as others have noted. And you used the limited color palette really nicely. Best of luck.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Now that I read my previous comment on The H.Q. again, I realize that perhaps it didn't really exhibit the esteem for a job well done that I meant it to have. I was trying to say that I think Kris did a very good job with a concept that is similar to the one I used. In fact, I agree that hers is more well done than mine is, thus the fear that it will get votes and mine will not. I was not trying to say that mine was better and hope that my comment didn't come across that way.

I agree, this is cool idea. Maybe not illustrated as well as it could have been though, but nice nonetheless.

I assume you're talking about the gradient? Your criticism might be more constructive if you say why you think it's a violation. :P

The illustration is pretty hard to read at first. Once I finally understood the suicide implication, I wasn't really impressed...

tgentry wrote:Thank you e. There is ambiguity in the rules, but I don't feel like my design is attempting to exploit that. I did my best at interpreting the rules. Going by my track record of rejections, I think I have a good feel for what woot is looking for when they lay out rules. I'm not trying to get around the system, I'm simply following what I think their intent is.

And as you so perfectly said, the rule doesn't specifically state that every instance of the exclamation-point mark must fit those requirements, only the one incorporation of that logo that they are describing.

I couldn't agree more. I had a think about this same issue when creating my bag, I really wanted a woot exclamation point on "the big gold 'buy' button" which is skewed in perspective. After reading the rules a few times I decided to keep it there, because I felt it was within the rules... as argued above.

Re: What Lurks Inside

GMV but also agree the text version was awesome.

Can anyone tell me why Woot has this seemingly arbitrary self imposed text restriction on this and the majority of derbys? It's easy to see the economic reasons for other restrictions such as limited colors and printable area etc. but why limit text, especially when you consider that some of the best selling shirts come from text allowed derbys (Nevermore, The cakes a lair, Filthy Hippies). I can understand limiting occasionally for variety, as is done sometimes with colors, styles, bunnies etc. But why in most cases?

Re: Worker Bees

I don't think these dudes work for woot, they just live and work on their shipping bags. But who knows, maybe this mismanaged road construction is why smartpost always seems to move so slow...

yea the smaller one is the actual bag

and yea its a small logo. It was first a design for a canvas bag that revamped for this. The reason the woot logo is so small is cause the bag doesnt have to be about the logo, it can be about art. and in this case it's subtle..

yankeebird wrote:I'm confused. Is that smaller image with the tiny exclamation mark in the corner your entry? Why isn't the exclamation mark visible in the bigger image? And is that really the only place you're incorporating their logo?

Re: woot coat of arms

The exclamation point must be white on a solid background of black, Shirt.Woot blue, or Shirt.Woot yellow.
Woot doesn't ship to Alaska even though they say that they ship to the continental United States... Alaska is part of the North American continent, we aren't an island like some believe

This is kind of like what I feel like when I get my woot shirt... except that I am wielding an m4a1, chest hair exposed, muscles rippling, back flipping and wailing on my electric guitar... actually... I feel nothing like this drawing.
