Good morning everyone. Had breakfast with an old friend this morning. Was going to do some running around, but decided a nap sounded better.

I'll have you know there's been no ill effects. Look elsewhere for the culprit.

Lots of rain last night.
Closed the LIE near here.
Flooded lots of streets
I think the LIRR (long island rail road) is closed too

A house a few blocks away had a foundation collapse. The people only owned it a few months. But the house itself is over 50 years old.
The basement collapse broke a gas line and they evacuated the surrounding area....which may have included the fire house, since it is on the next block.

I wonder if they knew about the flooding? The grade school field turns into a pond and it drains out through this ditch next to the school.
The ditch ends in a huge sewer pipe. This is maybe a few hundred from the house. I wonder if they knew about that? I wonder if there is any underground stream or something near it?

We are lucky. We are flat and never had standing water in our street.
Now with Rusty, walking all the time, we notice the elevation changes in the neighborhood. Wouldn't have given it a thought when we bought the house.

One guy expanded his house and made it huge for the size of the lot.
He put a basement level garage.
The first flash flood, the garage got 4 foot of water in it. The house is at the bottom of a gradual slope and the street water just ran down his driveway.

Well, it seems hubby is on vacation. I found this out when he didn't go to work
He is in heavy cleaning mode. Getting stuff ready to bring to school.
Son is sleeping
I better get out of the house, or he will make me clean too!
Still raining hard on and off, so no doggie activities. Got caught yesterday in a downpour. That was enough.
I got the wrong towels at costco yesterday. Guess I'll return them.

Vacation will be, pack up and move son.
I get to stay home, because of the dog! Unless the pet resort isn't full, last week in Aug? The weeks between camp and school are the busiest vacation time here.
I'm sure it will be full.

woopdeedoo great vacation

Afternoon, all.

Took some trash to the landfill yesterday. One of the bags apparently leaked. After baking in the sun all day it soured in my trunk - just spent the last hours washing it. The smell isn't completely gone, but at least I ain't gaggin'!

Any suggestions for eliminating the odor completely? I know Febreze ain't gonna do it.

Put some charcoal (regular stuff, not the match-light kind) in a large shallow container and leave it in there for a couple days? That's one of the suggestions I recently ran across for getting stink out of a freezer, so it might work for a car trunk as well.

Open can of ground coffee (even the cheap instant kind) is supposed to absorb odors and that's what people use to get the cigarette smoke out of cars. It does add a coffee smell, but most people find that agreeable.

Orc's interviews are Tues and Thurs.

You want activated charcoal.

well, yes activated charcoal is definitely much better than grilling charcoal. But it's also a lot more expensive.

Current project is to take various types of plant matter (in this particular instance, seaweed) and put them into our special machine/process which turns it all into a liquid which can then be easily refined into gasoline and other transportation fuels.

though I suppose feeding people putrid sushi might be an even faster way to turn this stuff into gas. hrmmm...

also have seen a gel-lke stuff that comes in a tub (like a margarine tub). You leave the lid off and it'll absorb a lot of stink.
