No. My sister has a rental cottage next door to them and their renters moved out a month or so ago. Since it's empty, son asked if he and family could come up. They did this a couple years ago, although it was both sons. So we're going, too. Supposed to be kind of rainy and cool, so I don't think there'll be much swimming in the lake. On the other hand the lake is really warm this year, so maybe.

It's not supposed to be hot in PA, but really humid Thursday and Friday. And my sister doesn't have a/c. I don't deal well with humidity.

When I was growing up no one had AC. Didn't need it, they said. My sister is still saying that, but I'll bet at least 75% of the homes have it now.

I will admit - I can't survive well without A/C.

After college on a trip to mexico we met a group of NYC police officers also on vacation. We had a big discussion on what was more important in a car - a great radio or A/C. All the TX folks said A/C. The NY guys said a radio.

They had it, but the didn't know how to turn it on.
It was a furnace under a grate in the middle of the hall in the center of the house.
Really crude.
This was an old house in New Orleans.

A lot of the houses in NM where my mom lives have evaporative cooling systems. I'm still not completely clear on what that means. Except it is controlled with the thermostat, blows out vents like central A/C, but the system has to be changed from heating to cooling by a professional at the beginning of the season. it's either heat or cool, can't switch back and forth

My sister has baseboard hot water heat. I think they'd have a hard time putting in ac.
