That was my thought as well, but the fingers don't seem to be in the right position for having just snapped.

Jam: contains both fruit juice and fruit pieces (flesh). Made with whole fruit, cut into pieces or crushed.

Jelly: has a similar process of creation to jam, but with the additional step of filtering out the fruit pulp after initial heating.

Marmalade: generally refers to a preserve made from citrus fruits (orange is common - and delicious) and sometimes described as jam with fruit peel, though there are peel-free marmalades.

You know jelly and jam are not the same, right? Jam has fruit pieces in it, but jelly does not. They are made through different processes. It appears that the sandwich was popularized by American solders after WWII. (The story goes that peanut butter and jelly were part of the GI rations, so they put them together to make the peanut butter easier to eat.) Perhaps jam is more prevalent in the UK?

Jam is more common in Canada. Or, it was more common in my house when I was a kid. I like marmalade more though.

I haven't eaten PB&J since 1994, when I last made about $12k/year and bought most of my clothes at the Salvation Army. Ain't going back to those days.....

But the nephew might dig this shirt. He likes PB&J. In fact, that kid will eat nearly anything.
