Hah! Oh man I remember recorders. I think you did a nice job depicting the music class. Stupid cool kids and their awesome electric guitars.

Re: Magical touch

Pretty cool design! Very different concept than what I was imagining from the thumbnail. I think you did a good job with this and the colors you chose are pretty wild and seem to really go well with a greyish shirt. Nice work!

Re: Or Else

I really like the style of the characters quite a bit,and it looks great on red. I guess I too am a bit lost on what the claw represents though. It's probably something really, really great - I'm just not thinking of it right.

Re: The Best Years of Your Life

It's aesthetically pleasing as an advertisement or a drawing of some architectural plans. For shirts though, people do tend to like more jokes, cute characters, or crazy insane concepts that either look just "blow your mind amazing" or have a really great back story to them.

Personally I didn't have all that great of a time in high school, and because of that I'd be extremely hesitant to sport a shirt that indicates I loved my high school. For the original idea you had though, you did execute it well. I'd just suggest broadening your mind a tad to make it more appealing to mass audiences.

Anyways keep submitting here! The derbies can be challenging, and the critics can be harsh sometimes, but it is a good learning experience I think.

Re: Number 2 pencils only

It's cute and I like all of their expressions. I wish it had some sort of background to it, whether it's just splatter paint or something abstract to provide a bit of a visual anchor point, as the scantron kind of goes off into the distance. I also wish Mr. Number two pencil was holding up two fingers instead of one. :p

My thoughts exactly... I was wondering what the joke was that I wasn't getting, glad I am not the only one! But love the style of the characters and the colors.

Vote!

binkdrop wrote:Congratulations to mshepker for correctly guessing all eight characters in the shirt on Aug 22, 2009 at 7:24 AM. Thanks so very much to all who participated. You made this derby so much more fun for me, and it was great to read your guesses. Many of you were very close and had some really great guesses for who they could've been! It just so happened that I had specific people in mind. Anyways, here are the answers by number:

1. Judas Iscariot - Betrayed Jesus by identifying him with a kiss, and accepted a bribe of thirty pieces of silver to do so. (Hence the money bag).
2. Incitatus - Emperor Caligula's favorite horse, who lived the life of luxury. Caligula is noted for trying to appoint Incitatus (his horse) as a priest.
3. Caligula - Known for his cruelty and insanity as an emperor. He was self-indulgent, slept with other men's wives, made his palace a brothel, frivolously spent money as a ruler, and all sorts of other crazy things.
4. Jack the Ripper - A serial killer in London, England noted for his most gruesome and vicious killings of at least five women.
5. Elizabeth Bathory - The legend of her is somewhat similar to that of "Dracula". The stories of her depict that she lured young women to her home to work as servants and then killed them, so she could bathe in their blood and stay young. I believe this was later found to be untrue, but she was responsible for a multitude of tortures and murders of servant girls that she kept prisoner in her home. (The mirror and rag soaked with blood were in place of a bathtub, as I couldn't put that in there!)
6. John Wilkes Booth - Assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in the Ford's theater.
7. Vlad the Impaler - known for impaling his enemies on pikes, and there they would hang for hours or days until they died a slow and agonizing death. The number of his victims ranges from 30,000 to 100,000.
8. Lucifer. I'm sure you're all familiar with him.

Anyways check these people out on wikipedia if you're interested. Their stories are intriguing in a morbid kind of way. Thank you again to all participants - you guys really made this so much fun!

i really love the expression on jack the rippers face. reminds me of pinky and the brain,(damn i loved that show). i like this shirt alot, but alas i would not buy one, so i cannot vote. sorry

I kid, I kid. Nice shirt, I was unaware of this shirt colour until now. Perhaps I've seen it before and just assumed it was cranberry.

Wait, is this cranberry? I'm so confused...

Yup. No picture, no thumbnail. I thought it was just me, cleared my cookies and temp file, but it's still not there. I was going to try from another computer, but didn't get that far yet. There's also one rejected one I can't see, but the rest are good.

I don't like the shirt, mostly because I really don't like this theme. That being said, the illustration and texture are outstanding.
