Livnxtreem wrote:Well being that I have only been a Woot member for about three months I will have to say this is the first Mario shirt I have seen. So I can understand the irritation there. I guess my point was the negativity. I am all about some tips or advice on making it better, but if you are going to whine, complain, and be negative rather than helpful in a positive manner, go take some prozac on your high horse and get over yourself. Life is too short for negativity and complaining.

Well, lol. I guess that was a little hypocritical, huh? I guess I was just complaining about the negative folks on my soap box, eh. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG! GOSH! That was the point, geez!

Not directed toward you jmmbell1987. Guess the newb here needed to know that there were a lot of the mario prints.

I hear ya, and I appreciate your sentiment. Positivity is a good thing.

I just see both sides, is all. I agree that the complaining can go to far and get bogged down in pointless fighting. But I've also seen designs win that just bothered me, to the extent that I totally understood their detractors and couldn't just dismiss them as being unnecessarily negative. And when that happens for the umpteenth time, I can see how that pushes some into the territory where they just have to be honest.

snarkygal wrote:You know, it's not just a win, it is $1,000 plus $2 for each shirt sold after the first day. So yes, people are going to be critical.

Since you are so new here, maybe you should take a look at ALL the shirts that have been submitted to the Derbies and all the shirts ever printed on Woot.

http://www.shirtwhat.com/

Exactly my point. Why do you think they make designs they know people will vote for? So they can get the MONEY, duh! Smart in my opinion because they could get an easy win just for the theme of their design. Not original,I know, but brilliant if you want the money. Instead of being so critical of the artist who is appealing to the voters and not the critics, be critical of the voters. The voters print the shirts. Can't blame a dude for wanting 1,000 buckaroos. That's all I am trying to say.

I have actually looked at some of the older shirts. One of my good friends happens to own the shirt with the Davinci Turtle from Mario. I have been looking at Woot shirts for quite some time. I meant new as in just recently became an artist on woot and bought shirts. I suppose I haven't seen all the shirts in the bloody archive. Good grief! But as many video game shirts I have seen printed you would think everyone wanted them. I had no idea there was so much hostility toward video game themes.

If you have such a problem with it. Design a better shirt people will vote for instead of the other! Win instead of Whining

I guess I wanted to go for a more "hey I'm in yo' face" design, which kind of came out that way, but it does creep me out.

hahhaaa...if it creeps you out then I would change it. Re-submit! You have plenty of time...
And I will vote without the mouth. : )

I set a personal record for fastest design on this one. Took about 15 minutes from idea to completed submission... lol. That is worth a few votes right?

Livnxtreem wrote:You know what I don't get.... is how some people are so critical of something people spent a lot of time on. In addition, they don't vote for the mere fact it isn't original. Like there is some code people "have" to follow. This website is about people having fun making designs and hoping that someone will like it and vote. If they win, it is because it is what the fellow wooters want! I applaud anyone who sticks to there guns and designs things they know will win. Don't get me wrong I love, love, love the originals, I just wish there wasn't so much negativity. Kudos to all the people who are encouraging and constructive rather than critical. I think sometimes people know how to play the system and win the votes! I love Mario and I know many do. Great artwork.

No offense Wugsby. I know you were trying to be positive near the end. I just have bottled up my thoughts on responses like yours and it just so happens you received the wrath of words.

The problem with using a design that's too close to the original without being a parody is that the owners of the original art can sue Woot for copyright infringement. Saying that voters loved it won't be much of a defense. Whether this one crosses the line or not, I have no idea. Woot will decide sooner or later.

Oh I completely agree with you there. But it seems like the people who had a problem with it, generalized video game themes altogether, as well as other popular themes.
