Interesting that two people in this derby had somewhat similar ideas! (I am referencing Kokoroneko's submission) Both are drawn differently though and have different styles.

I like the detailing in the roots that span her body, but I wish that the roots at the bottom had a more organic feel, like they're buried into the ground rather than like they just stop at some concrete on the floor. Nice work though.

To me, this fits the bill, seeing as mario never actually got eaten by the plants in the game. If he touched one, he would fly up in the air and fall of the screen.

Also, Looking at it from a legal standpoint, this isn't OVERTLY mario. Yes, its a red hat and a white glove, but it isnt necessarily mario's hat and glove.

Granted, the colors and scale are slightly different and their respective placements are the reverse of each other but wow, they look so similar to me; I was just wondering if anyone else saw it too.

Reminds me more of the Rejuvenation submission by TGentry which BTW I think is much better.

The comp is especially eerily similar.

I think this design is excellent. My brother was KIA in Iraq and it really speaks to me. My only suggestion would be to clarify the dog tags a bit better, at first they looked like gym shorts. haha. But kidding aside, I love it. You're a talented artist.

Woot tends to err on the side of caution, it seems. The fact that everyone recognizes it as Mario might be enough for them to pull it.

It's not so much whether they'd win a lawsuit, but whether one could be threatened by people with big bad lawyers on staff. You don't have to lose a case in court for the threats to be expensive.

Since I'm not a lawyer, I can't really look at it from a legal standpoint. And with some copyright/trademark issues, even lawyers don't know what's allowed - they just know it's something they can go to court over.

If Woot rejects, it'll be interesting to see what they use as a reason. They might also choose to reject because there was a similar shirt in another derby where the art was more of a parody than this.

We'll have to wait and see.

I really like this illustration! But as has already been said, the abrupt cut off at the bottom is disrupting the flow of the picture.

Save this entry and fit it into another derby please!

And just as a suggestion, maybe you could add a background design or color to help the flow? :D
