homeschoolwinner wrote:I agree too. I think it's awesome until your eyes reach the canopy. The trunk is so textured and the pot and the robot have a lot of character and then the canopy is just...there. It almost looks like someone else did the canopy part haha. I would add some cool leaves and branches and stuff (maybe since it's a robot tree, some robot parts too?) and re-sub. I will vote for it then for sure!

I completely disagree. I like the contrast between the detail of the trunk and the simplicity of the canopy. It makes it stand and is more unique.

In any case, beautiful job.

Hey thanks Mary! I actually had it on white/grey at first, but I changed it. I then added stuff that only works on dark backgrounds. I have to make some more changes to make it work on white again.

I kinda preferred it on the lighter shirts too. I thought you might try another light background like lemon or grass or baby blue... not a dark color. It's still good, but it doesn't standout the same way to me either.
However, still something I would wear myself, and that doesn't happen that often

Now when I post it's usually to decry the shameless exploitative design tactics that certain artists use to appeal to the anime subculture on this website for an almost guaranteed win, but I think I have to speak up in this case as well. Though I'm a fervent supporter of video games and clever designs involving video games, I feel I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't comment that this shirt is doing much the same thing that the chibi designers do, just with a different theme. Chibi shirts shouldn't win sheerly by virtue of being chibi and video game shirts shouldn't win simply by virtue of being related to video games either.

Anyways, I applaud the effort and though I am a mario fan I would have to say that I don't feel this design would stand on it's own if it didn't have a mario theme backing it. It's a good effort and I'm sure that many people will vote for it but I am not going to be one of those people.

You know what I don't get.... is how some people are so critical of something people spent a lot of time on. In addition, they don't vote for the mere fact it isn't original. Like there is some code people "have" to follow. This website is about people having fun making designs and hoping that someone will like it and vote. If they win, it is because it is what the fellow wooters want! I applaud anyone who sticks to there guns and designs things they know will win. Don't get me wrong I love, love, love the originals, I just wish there wasn't so much negativity. Kudos to all the people who are encouraging and constructive rather than critical. I think sometimes people know how to play the system and win the votes! I love Mario and I know many do. Great artwork.

No offense Wugsby. I know you were trying to be positive near the end. I just have bottled up my thoughts on responses like yours and it just so happens you received the wrath of words.

Re: Love Grows Inside Us All.

I don't really have a lot to say about this one. I wanted to try a more bold graffiti-ish style, just to do something different. I do believe it would've looked a bit nicer stretched more vertically on the shirt, but of course here at woot we can't quite do that yet.

I might totally take your suggestion and rework it later tonight when I get home. No time though now. : (

My personal distaste is for designers who stick to their guns and submit designs that have been seen countless times before and are clearly just playing all the cards to try and win the cutesy or "cool" random swirl votes. There's a difference between being crowd pleasing and fun (say, "Night Owl" and the more recent "The Chemist") and blatant pandering.

That said, I do agree that the negativity goes too far at times, sometimes with reason, sometimes without much.

edit- I just realized I wasn't responding to the artist, heh

Well being that I have only been a Woot member for about three months I will have to say this is the first Mario shirt I have seen. So I can understand the irritation there. I guess my point was the negativity. I am all about some tips or advice on making it better, but if you are going to whine, complain, and be negative rather than helpful in a positive manner, go take some prozac on your high horse and get over yourself. Life is too short for negativity and complaining.

Well, lol. I guess that was a little hypocritical, huh? I guess I was just complaining about the negative folks on my soap box, eh. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG! GOSH! That was the point, geez!

Not directed toward you jmmbell1987. Guess the newb here needed to know that there were a lot of the mario prints.
