Re: All I Want Is To Be-Held...

i would buy this 100% sure if the text "i just want to be-held" was allowed to be on the t-shirt, too.
without it, it feels just a tad missing something.

The composition and placement of the images: the melting moon here and the melting heart in defrost, dripping onto someone below. Likewise, the dark to blue transition from the top down reminds me of Defrost as well (though it's more stark in Defrost).

I'm not saying it's self-plagiarism, but the similarities are there.

Thanks. the angler fish kind of freaks me out. I really like this design but not sure why it's not getting more votes. probably would work better as a children's tee. oh well. thanks for the kind words.

Re: Blue Screen of Death

It seems like the glow from the screen on this one would also produce a blue lighting effect on the back of his white shirt. I believe you have it on his hair and pants perhaps, but not shirt. Anyways just a small observation and not really that big of a deal. :p

I had included the glow on his shirt originally, but it just looked like a strangely colored shadow because the white shirt is brighter, so I decided to omit it.

So, if you are going to say that this shirt is a playoff of another shirt, post proof instead of blatantly saying something. :D

All of his/hers(?) designs have all looked the same to me for a long time now. Same colors, same style etc. Just growing tired of the same recycled stuff over and over again. Between my account and my husband's account I have about 15 woot shirts. Not a single Ramyb or Sekiyoku or Ramsisyokub shirt amongst them.

binkdrop wrote:It's too bad woot doesn't print in different sections than they do, because this design would've worked super well starting at the shoulder, going all the way down, and then wrapping around halfway. I like the simplicity of the design, and the colors (although they're all blue, some blues really do clash with each other depending on the type of feel you want, and these work nicely). I also like the hint of swirls and organic designs besides just the blueberries.

Agreed, I often wish the printing are was more flexible. But I do like the way this turned out anyway. Thanks for your comments, it's nice to have all the different details I deliberated over noticed!

Graghraghragh, lovely sense of depth on this one. I know I'm supposed to be admiring the lemur eyes, but I keep drifting back to the sky. 's strangely captivating. Excellent work on the implied foliage, as well.

That's your personal choice, I'm not saying that you need to buy his shirts. All that I am saying is that even though it may be similar, it still is different, you can say you see something in something else for more than 3/4 of the entries in every derby.

People have decided to go so negative against Ramyb and Seki that all the arguments are the same, but nothing changes. It's the SSDD, same Manos: The Hands of Fate (1966) different derby every time from complainers. Nothing is going to happen from complaining that it's the same design, fake accounts, and recycled ideas. Usually an artist uses the same style.

For example, I am an amateur photographer. I enjoy taking pictures of flowers. That is the same exact concept for most of my pictures. The same category of idea, but slightly different, meaning different flowers.

Same goes for this, they are still brilliant ideas in themselves and still take time no matter what. I personally cannot draw or do designs like these, so if you think you can do better, than by all means, design a shirt that you think would beat Ramyb.

I like the box. I think it provides appealing contrast. And your leopard is gorgeous. I'm extremely surprised this isn't doing better.... Maybe because people feel the theme isn't depicted obviously enough?

Re: Lonely King of the Garden

Allegedly, Woot has rejected dandelion shirts just because there are too many dandelion shirts, so we'll see how that goes.

But honestly, I think this would have fit last week's theme better than this one. I see the connection to Flora much better than I see the connection to Blue, other than the blue shirt.

It's an interesting idea, now that I see the lion, though.

mzdkay1369 wrote:I don't post much, and have no interest in going round and round with anyone. I am merely stating my views as to why this shirt is "blue" in more than just the sense of the color of the fabric.

It's all in the girl. When I look at her I don't see a happy person. She's completely alone (save her monkey), and must call the dead to come play with her. Although she smiles, very softly as if she's putting that smile on for a show, her eyes are closed and down turned. To me this tells me that's she not actually happy, but attempting to hide a deep melancholy. While she's content with the Dead and a Monkey as her friends, I think she's sad and longing for more. But yet, she's resigned to the fact that these are her friends, so she'll play music for them so they may dance and have a good time.

I realize that this may not have been the intent at all. I realize that most people won't and haven't given this shirt that much thought. And that's ok. I still find this to be one of the best "blue" shirts out there because it expresses a deep, yet hidden, melancholy which is very expertly revealed through subtle clues.

I've given it a lot of thought, and just read this as another wishful attempt to convince everyone it's on theme. She's happy! She's a devil (horns!), and playing a happy song to dance with her pals, the damned souls who inhabit those bones! There's nothing blue in her tune, her expression, or her intent. Another fun day at the boneyard for the devil in the blue dress! Oh! it's purple!
hmm. if only she had on a blue dress.
