I'm checking the accuracy myself. So far it's mostly transcription mistakes; nobody in the top 20 has tried to pass something through that was...questionable.

As opposed to a Western Dragon. Chinese dragons are also prevalent in Japanese culture. Please don't distort what I'm saying.

HAH...

dear god...

Okay, please, at the very least, do not decide to hate another design because a design you liked got thrown out. Yes, it's sort of obvious that sour grapes are driving the arguments to throw it out. It takes away any weight from your already lightweight arguments.

This is a really great design, and the positive points here are what matters. People like the design, they will buy the shirt, and it fits the rules as much as any of the designs.

Good job, guys.

so you have the sig thing almost right -- the tags are a little wrong though. It's supposed to look like this (minus the asterisks)

Not sure about the yellow (looks a little to neon like? for me) but the illustration is nice! :]

Growing up I had a whole series of books, Frog and Toad. Your design brings me right back to those childhood days, only in a more grown-up defending my honor and fighting back the demon hordes sort of way.

As an aside, if this were in English (Engrish?) I'm sure some Japanese people would wear this...American cultural references are popular here. But truly I don't see any connection to Japan besides the Japanese text. The style, content and even use of Japanese writing are very American. And I think some Japanese people would be miffed that this is representing "Japan" but I guess if woot deems it passes then there's not much I can say.

It's a well-done design in any case. Not my thing (I don't wear Japanese text as a general rule, looks silly) but good luck to you.

Just ignore haters Ramyb, they will never be happy with anything you do or say. You could come up with a completely different style and they'll find something to compare it to. It's a losing battle trying to reason with some people, especially here. Just do what you do, keep making money, keep selling shirts, and keep driving people crazy for doing so. You are obviously doing something right since people keep voting.

jmmbell1987 wrote:I understand. It just seems to me that a lot of people have kneejerk reactions to certain colors (white, cream, and asphalt usually) no matter the design. Sometimes, the shirt color is perfect for the design. In this case, I think cream is perfect, allowing the design to let the shirt color become a sort of color base (the face/armor and tales of the fish are largely comprised of the creme), and allowing for more interesting colors.

While I agree with you, people are not just here to buy a deign, they are here to buy a t-shirt with a design on it. If a person does not like a color, it won't matter how good the design is, the shirt color is important to them. They are not going to buy it to frame it, they want to wear it. It's understandable why people have knee-jerk reactions to certain colors. That's part of the design process.

If you can succeed at getting a non-popular shirt color to print and sell then the designer did their job, not just good, but very good and more power to them.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo, I received and wore my Totally Awesome Deer shirt today (http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=9610). After looking at this I couldn't help but thinking "Do we REALLY need another deer on a cliff with cherry blossoms shirt??"

I was focusing on this case in particular. In this design, the shirt color is very much part of the design, and another shirt color would screw up the whole design. In other words, it's hard to question the shirt color of choice, even if one particularly dislikes cream.

Thanks, I suppose I could've made the fish more curved instead of angular. However there is an error on my part that I didn't realize, the width was a little too short, making it seem more angular.

Re: Forget Chopsticks...

First I hate when someone posts something and says "well my X from Y said Z about this" but I am now going to be one of those people.

My neighbot, who I tried and tried to get her to make an account here and make this comment, came over and I was showing her some of the designs I had voted on. She was confused by some of the wording in a lot of designs but wasn't offended and even found a lot of them to be very amusing. On this particular Spork shirt she laughed. She thought this was great and very Japanese. She actually started to explain to me what a spork was since she didn't think I had ever seen one and she hadn't seen one in a very long time. (I reminded her they have them at KFC)

I don't know why I even bothered to say this. I just thought some of you might be interested. I made my opinion on the topicality of this shirt long ago.

Re: Such Big Anime Eyes!

The Kanji (as I understand it, and I don't understand it) stands for "Big" and (the small one) for "Small".

I always thought the huge huge eyes that anime characters have was funny.

Clearly I haven't done this before, but it is pretty fun.

owlishness wrote:I would upvote this except for the "dragon" kanji. Being Chinese, I don't find it cool in the slightest. The illustration itself is quite nice, but would you wear it if it said DRAGON in giant letters where it now says 龍? Before using foreign characters as stylistic elements, try replacing them with English in your head and consider if it looks ridiculous or not.

Great design otherwise though.

Like when you get a tatoo of the character for something would it look cool if it just said PEACE.

Gotcha. I don't really care for cream myself, but I might actually get this shirt because of the design and I agree, the shirt color for this design is a good fit.
