I really like the idea. I get what you're going for with the screens. A few solid lines might add a little more depth, but overall I like it.

Can we add a "shirts that will print not even close to well" ban?

Can everyone please stop using halftones to create a pointless smoke effect. Yes, it looks cool. But it adds nothing to an otherwise very creative and interestingly drawn shirt.

Don't even try to make sense of this picture. Sometimes absurdity just needs to remain unexplained.

Here is a link to a larger shot of the design.

If you don't get the connection to the harvest theme, the cucumbers have been harvested and the setting is on a farm. Pretty simple. The sunglasses...well that's another matter entirely, and we won't even attempt to go into that here.

Hope you enjoy.

I see gluttony, not harvest. I also see hackneyed, not original.

I'd actually like to see that as a reason for rejection. Woot should know what will print well on a shirt, and in theory it's something an artist could fix and resubmit.

I would love to have a real cornucopia that looks like this, for my fall tabletop. If it actually tried to bite people, that would be a plus.

Cukes wear sunglasses because they're "cool as a cucumber."

As for the cows and sun, "the future's so bright, they gotta wear shades."

Makes perfect sense to me.

I feel like the whole time I was making this, I knew in the back of my head that it would work better as a painting or storybook illustration or something than on a shirt. I put a lot of work into it though, so I just wanted to give it a shot here. Hopefully it won't totally flop! haha

You should be an illustrator! :D

I love your style, as always. Personally the main guy in the front scares me a little but I like the girl dancing. lol

Mavyn wrote:I like the sun and the colors, but wheat and other harvestable grasses are pretty straight. So the bends are confusing. If the stalks were more straight, sort of a sweeping curve, I think it would flow better.

Soooo, I realize wheat is straight, and I actually started to draw something that was like a giant orange-y moon with flow-y wheat stalks as a semi-silhouette in front, but then I realized the style wasn't me. I wasn't happy with what I was drawing because it seemed overdone and not something I'd draw. So I went with something I felt more comfortable drawing -- I like the zig-zaggy shape of the "wheat" stalks I drew just because to me, it adds character. Maybe it's not realistically correct, but I'm happy with it.

naisemaj wrote:honestly the only one i like so far in the derby, and yeah, wheat is a straight stalk, but just because it isn't a picture of wheat doesn't make the shirt bad. pretty coloring and good placement along with a simple design; i couldn't ask for more.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you see what I see.

truffleshuffle wrote:I really like the shading technique on the moon and how its sorta wonky rather than perfectly circular. Its just really appealing to me for some reason, haha

Hehe, I prefer the non-perfect-shapes as well. Thanks for your comment, as always!

thericochet wrote:i really like the cranberry against the other color(s), but i think it'd help if the moon was a crescent moon, because without the title it looks like it could be any type of sphere. it looks like more of a sun than a moon. a crescent moon would definitely help.

but but but.. it's a Harvest Moon..! If it was a crescent moon it would be off topic... T^T lol But point taken -- I just google imaged 'harvest moon' and they looked orange and beautiful, which is what I was going for (and kind of failed :x)

Adding a bit more after my first comment:

Aside from it being a great design, this is something that I first came to love about Woot shirts - unique and artistic.

Lately the shirts have become graphic illustrations of middle school humor or so obscure that no one can possibly understand them unless they knew about the derby they were entered in.

This one needs no explanation and looks great; that's why I'll buy it if it wins

I really enjoy the look and feel of this. As others have noted, it's soothing and well thought out. This is also one of those few times when I approve of the halftones. The simplicity and the limited palette works well for this. Great job as always, Travis.

Re: Scareperson

I'm always envious of your line-work, Drakxxx. You consistently create wonderful pieces with such detail and line scratching and I think it was a perfect decision to go with the olive shirt. It's been a while since we had a really good olive shirt design win in a very long time (personally, I feel we haven't had a good olive shirt design win a derby since Fee! Fie! Foe! Fum! last October... though 3 olive shirt designs have won since then.)

It's ok, it's kind of an old reference, (on both accounts). I'm also not sure that ghostbusters was ever popular outside of North America. Thanks for checking it out though.
