I like the changes in the background with the bamboo trees. However, I'm not really digging on the thought bubble. I can't picture a panda wanting to eat some chicken. I liked the peaceful panda from the first sub a lot better. Still voting on this one though.

I had no prior knowledge of johnny cupcake before this but i would say that IMO this is different enough AND better than the other.

Also i would definitely buy this shirt if it won due to memories from high school and some of the people i know would probably buy one as well.

All the supporters of this design can rationalize how it fits the theme but they are wrong. This has nothing to do with how the derby theme was descibed in the write up. Sorry to those who think it does, but it doesn't!

Re: Almost Too Complicated

He's obviously slurping the noodles and they're so good that he's taking a break to smile.

Ramen sticks together anyway, so he would need to take a "slurping break" in order to chew and such anyway.

Re: A Dangerous Concoction

Okay I have an idea, how about everyone just take a moment from wasting their breathe about the validity of yet another Ramy design that is not on topic and go to this site to support a tee so many of you voted for twice. That's right it's up for another vote and I hope this time it will get printed.

http://www.threadless.com/submission/232436/The_Blue_Footed_Booby_Dance_of_Seduction/showmore,designs

then you can come back and continue on with the discussion of Ramy being off topic again.

xazothia wrote:regardless of whether I'd actually buy it, I'm pretty sure that this shirt would be doing just as well in terms of voting WITHOUT the cat and the dragon/wolf/thing coming out of the fire.

one of my painting profs liked to say that art isn't done when there's nothing left to add, but that art is done when there's nothing left to take away.

and there are definitely things you could have left out of this design without compromising its ability to garner votes.

food for thought.

A well done critique. These are the kinds of comments I enjoy reading and I'm sure make a much larger impression than, "You do this every derby so stop. I don't care if it makes you money or not."

There is nothing going on is this design that has anything to do with cooking.

A cookbook, fire, pot, green flames out of said pot, something leaking out of the pot(soup?)

Anything to do with cooking eh? Really? You see nothing related? It's not like there are some dudes playing street hoops here. I wouldn't argue then that they're, "Cooking up a nice platter to serve you." THAT would be off topic and have nothing to do with cooking.

You are hating just to hate. If you don't like it that's okay! At least get some quality reasons to hate. Your comment is almost fail.blog worthy.

mrwednesday wrote:
Keep in mind there is absolutely no room for ambiguity in the write-up for the derby. They want designs about foods being cooked.

Whether you're equipped with some restaurant-grade stainless-everything master kitchen or a microwave too small to pop popcorn in(OR A POT AKA A CAULDRON), chances are you've fried, baked, broiled, BOILED(Our Movie Genre really?), charred, grilled, roasted, toasted, or nuked something to eat at some point in your life.

Re: Flamebroiled Marshmallow resub

Over all I like your design the best of all (foot fixed of course), so many are just too gross. Thier is a difference and a fine line between thoughtful provocative ideas and twisted thinking gone amok!
One thing that may help make the design pop a little more – is to use a little heavier black outline mostly on the dragon & his back scales, wings ect. So. . . that the green is better defined against the green shirt. Also you may want to think about putting it on a medium blue shirt, a better contrast.

Thanks for responding. I just don't see it that way. If someone had put a giant idle microwave on the shirt it wouldn't be seen as something cooking.

I still like your design, I just don't see it as a cooking shirt. Just my opinion.

Where is your critique then?

Face it if you studied art criticism then you would know that it is so incredibly subjective that your opinion only counts as much as your credibility in the field, which you are losing. Take a step back and breathe.
