Staff

For some reason we can't put our finger on, we've really been thinking a lot about national parks. Maybe we just need some time in the open air. Maybe the healthcare debate has reminded us that sometimes government can play a positive role in our society. Or maybe public TV is showing a multi-part miniseries on the U.S. National Parks by a prominent documentarian. Whatever the reason, it's time to put that obsession into t-shirt form. Show us a stunning, shirt-worthy image from a national park - and not necessarily one in the United States. Feel free to extend the idea to parks in other countries, on other planets, in other realities, and different eras.

Text is permitted in support of a visual design - no slogan shirts. If you want your shirt to say something like "I Went To Black Hole Galactic Park And All I Got Was Crushed Into Oblivion", back it up with some pics or risk rejection.

But do not use the names of any actual National Parks, landmarks like Old Faithful, or the U.S. National Park Service.

No video-game references.

I'm not a fan of slogan shirts, but I would probably wear that.

I've really been enjoying the Ken Burns documentaries the last few days... Was just at Katmai in Alaska watching bears a month and a half ago. *sigh* Now I'm back in a little cube.

Holy scaffolding... have an AWESOME idea... but I don't think my artist will go along with it.

Hmmm... gotta send a couple PMs out.

Thinking of a couple other ideas too.

I REALLY am hoping for good things this derby. Or at least to get enough votes to beat NFLstar's submissions (seriously... what the hell?)

Munchy Attack If you can find the name of this artist & real song title I'll buy you a daily woot shirt (your choice what day)

Dystopia Dark Lager, Where the Wild Parties at?, B.A. Bearacus, and many more wanted in XXL(PLEASE!!!)
Edgar Allen Poe shall remained headlock'd until Nevermore is reckoned.

A Tralfamdore "national park" for the Vonnegut fans.

If I actually included the word "Tralfamadore" would that be a copyright infringement? (Tralfamadore is name of an alien planet in some of Kurt Vonnegut's novels)

on second thought... the problem with my idea it'd probably fall under the rejectable category of "woot lore" or whatever that rejection is.

Too bad... Thought it was a good idea.

The rules just say don't use names of actual national parks. So...might be ok.

That's what I was going to say. I figure literary references are going to be fair game, Robbie.

I love me some Vonnegut.

I have a great idea for this derby... I only hope my remedial artistic talents can properly bring the immensity of my idea to life.

No kidding. I'm getting sick of that junk. Last week was MLBSTAR, this week was NFLSTAR, next week will be NBASTAR... I really hope that woot writes that poser a very strong worded letter that'll get him to go away. Can't they threaten to turn him in for attempting to submit un-original artwork? Or is that too minor to stir up a fine?

This is finally a derby I could seriously purchase, since I'm a biologist. Hoping some of our regulars crank out something amazing. Wish we had darker green shirts, though.

yeah, I kinda wish we had 'Forest' green shirt blanks, but I figure Olive will be the most prominent color this week.

Yeah... he's annoying enough but when I can't get more votes than him/her... seriously demotivating. Musta been because of the 2 left feet.

Howzabout Ramystone national park... Figure he's won enough derbies to pay for a national park. Think Mt. Rushmore with a rabbit, cat, penguin & ...something else. There could be swirling dragon clouds in the back.

(Not trying to be snarky or anything... it was seriously my first thought as far as trying to get votes.)

B.t.w. Ramy, You feel like drawing it... I won't be too proud to split the winnings with you (^-^)

Now that I got that out... I'll have to think of a "real" idea.

I'm thinking that and brown. And obligatory asphalt.

Wish we could do this area. Unfortunately, a) it is real, and b) drug reference. But I like the idea of national parks about prominent shirt designers...

Hey, Woot! What about National Memorials? Like Mt. Rushmore, where I went this summer? Lincoln Memorial?

or National Monuments? Like Devil's Tower? Statue of Liberty?
-they are run by the Park Service, mostly.

This is a nice theme. I was just having a discussion with someone this weekend about how wonderful and important it is that these parks are created and preserved. No ideas yet, but very nice.

Restaurant at the End of the Universe National Park.

No idea if that's a good idea, but...

If some one did something for the Grand Canyon that would be great.

"Come see Big Hole in the Ground National Park"

Hopefully someone does a shirt in the style of the National Park posters from the 1930s.

There is a PBS 6-part special airing- The National Parks: America's Best Idea. It's wonderful. I encourage anyone who like nature in the least to watch it. Probably what cued Woot to do this theme.

Is Schrute Farms a national park?

Too bad it's not theme parks... Otherwise I'd TOTALLY do a Edgar Allen Poe one seeing as how popular Nevermore still is on the charts.

Nobody better steal that one... when they DO theme parks.

Most of your east coast places are run by the state they are in. So.. State Parks, not National.
