It's been exciting, the last few weeks, to watch our Classics program grow from a glint in the community's eye to full-fledged commercial endeavor. Seeing those old familiar t-shirt faces got us thinking and the community buzzing about ways to make this program even more of success. Besides, we can't leave well-enough alone.

We'll be taking the next few weeks (Ok, let's call it indefinitely now) to implement some of those new and interesting spins on the Classic program, but fear not. We'll be back with more oldies soon.

While we're at it, if you've got stuff you'd like to see or ideas you think we should try out, let's hear it.

Update: We're continuing to work through the implementation of these ideas. Bear with us.

I stayed up until 1 in the morning with my fingers crossed hoping for Bats!

And I get... NOTHING?!?!?!?!?!

NOOOOOooooooo...I can't believe there's no classic tonight! I've waited all week, crossing my fingers for Tin:Old Skool. It's been fun to guess what's gonna come up next. When can I expect the next classic??? I love the idea since I just got here at woot & missed out on so many cool shirts. The classics are the only way for me to get them!

Thanks for the update.

Perhaps http://shirt.woot.com/Classics/ should forward to this thread while the classics experiment is on hold?

Warning: baseless griping ahead

I really hope whatever's in store doesn't give full reign of the classics to voters. I like the suspense of never knowing what's coming up next, and the way the classics have trended toward the cult-classic type designs, instead of the more popular ones.

Oh woot... I thought you understood we enjoy it! Besides, do you realize how many of us want BATS!?? For Halloween?!? Come on, don't fail us now.

That one hasn't been gone long enough to even really be considered.

Yup, I've been hoping for "Bats!", too. Let's hope the shirt makes another appearance by Halloween. I also hope to see "Xmas is ribs" this December.

I love the classics experiment! Lost weight since the start of shirt.woot and there are a bunch of reckoned shirts that I own in large that I'd like to get in medium.

If, when you come back with the classics, and you continue to offer them for a week's sale, may I please suggest that you only accept coupon codes until Wednesday or Thursday, and then after that, no more coupon codes are accepted for the rest of a shirt's sale?
Reading each shirt's thread, I feel like people are holding out for coupon codes and not purchasing because of that.

(Also: BATS!, Angry Day, and Thing That Scoots, please!!!!)

I rose in rainy autumn and walked abroad in a shower of all my days.

is this another one of those things where we give suggestions but are just ignored?

but maybe give 3 shirts and let the community vote on which one to see, that way we have a bit of an idea what is coming up next

i suggest the idea to do away with coupon codes. i hope perhaps the classic woot can operate the same way as the daily woot, 1st day at $10, the rest of the week at $15.

many pple hv the codes but are not buying or sharing them. it does not make sense to continue with enforcing the code program since its restricting the majority of the fans from buying the classics.

or do $15 the first day and $20 the rest of the week. not that I'd complain about $10 classics, but y'know, they are classics ;)

Seconded. Only the biggest fans of the designs should be buying the classics, and therefore they shouldn't be priced way below market value (eg, what a shirt would go for at dbh or threadless). $10 is too low a price point. And, really, what's the incentive of getting shirts before they're reckoned if you think there's a shot they'll come back cheaper than they were on the reckoning list?

Hmm. It sounds to me like they're hinting at the birth of classics.woot.com. A new classic every day for (my guess) $15 with still the potential for $5 more off. It would work more like the other woot sites in that after 24 hours it's GONE. With 2+ years of designs and the potential for the most popular to show up multiple times, it can work.

If I'm completely off base, consider this a suggestion!

I love the Classics experiment- I only bought two so far (Sore Thumbs and Unicorn Hunting Gun), but I'm looking forward to getting more (hopefully Bats, for a start).

I'd love to see more experimenting with it in general...

It would be interesting to take a popular, but artistically reviled shirt from the past and let a Woot staff or Woot-appointed artist recreate it with their own trademark style. For instance, I hated When I Was Your Age, but I think guys like Dekon and Omnitarian are skilled enough to make it feel unique and cool.

Another neat thing to try might be to have two artists trade pieces- so if you planned on printing remixes of, say, Say No To Scurvy and Panda Polo, it would be interesting to see Fablefire and Duneboo each take a crack at each other's concepts.

I'd also love to see a bit of a break on the price, since $20 is pretty steep (that's more what I expect to pay for things printed on custom blanks or with specialty printing).

Along with classics, I think it would be fun to have some ECs from derbies gone by, particularly if they decide to shorten the sale period for the classics. I's sure Woot could dig through the old derbies and find some that haven't printed elsewhere that would be worth printing here.

I'd still prefer not to see it at $10 though. $15 would be a nice compromise.

At $20, it might be interesting to offer some different blanks - long sleeves, V necks, what have you. The Classics program might also be a good way to ease in any technical novelties such as new blank styles or new colours. Since it's still a new program (and still in "experimental" stages), you guys could make it so that the purchase of a Classic is something done far in advance. That would allow you to get a solid count on the number of purchases for product X. Since you won't have to estimate or guess at the numbers and since the urgency will have been removed, you could afford to test drive things like new blanks without the risk of overstocking on, say, hoodie blanks.

Then again, Classics is already so different from the regular stream that testing consumer patience with an "advanced order" deal might be a bad idea. But I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Oh my god. HOODIES. Please let this happen, Woot :D Even if it's just one a year, it would be amazing.

I'd like to see Angry Day and I'm Gonna Let It Shine. Quite possibly a remix of Zombie Season.

And set the price at $15?

How about toying with where we can/cannot print (sleeves/collar)? Seems like allowing a classic artist some creative freedom before opening the flood gates to the stinking lot of us makes sense.

Oh, please no. Putting the classics to a derby-like vote would be very, very bad. Part of the appeal is not knowing what's going to come up.

I'd really like to see the Halloween shirts from the first year, before most of use were even around. Pumpkin and Ghost in particular, but I'd probably buy almost any of them.

And also have the opportunity to wear them before Halloween? I would drop so much money for some old Hallowoot shirts, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

echoing some comments here and adding one original ones:

1. Get rid of the coupons
2. Offer different clothing styles (hoodies, sleeve options, etc.)
3. Only remix, no redux. I always want to see a change, even if it is relatively subtle

I am dearly hoping to see "Willing to Endure Scientific Research", which I missed the first time 'round. I want to wear it to a clinical trial I'm hoping to get into in a few weeks. Not only would it get a good laugh, it might sell a bunch more!

I'm in favor of a $10 price ($15, if you must) for classic shirts. "Research" is probably the only shirt I've missed that I'd be willing to pay $20 for.

Love/Hate for the Classics.

I like that it gives a chance to pick up some past shirts.

I hate the price. (I know I am a cheap bastard, I hesitate to buy from the reckoning b/c of the extra $5 there!)
