Yeah, seki isn't catching flak because many people don' t know there is any association so people who may not vote for ramy are fine voting for seki because they think they are distinct individuals. And because they don't see her name enough people don't follow the trends and she wins much less than ramy as well.

I thought the imagery was fairly clear, but wanted to keep it subtle enough that you need to do a double-take to see it. The dog doesn't have candy, it's eying the next animal in line, and there are bones, part of a costume, and a bag of candy scattered around.

Nothing about the dog indicates he just devoured that other trick or treater, though, to me. Other then the pile of clothes, there isn't really any indication. Also he looks pretty placid, maybe if he looked more.. like he was stalking or about to pounce on the cat/rabbit in front of him or something to indicate viciousness.. but as of now it just looks like he's waiting in line for some candy.

Is it just me, or does that pumpkin top look like it belongs to a completely different, much smaller pumpkin?

He literally can't throw the middle finger. He has four fingers. Tuck your thumb into your palm, and try to flip me the bird.

Also; he could be pointing and swearing. I do that sometimes. The other day I was in the drive through line at the bank. Previously I was trying to explain to my friend the color of this car I had seen that was just this terrible, terrible gold/green that looked like vomit, to be honest. A jeep passed by me that was the same color and I pointed in my excitement (she was in the car with me) and I yelled "THAT F-ING COLOR!"

I'm not sure whether I like this revision better than the original. The panels still bother me a bit, but I do think this is the best design so far. Improve it if you can, but don't do anything too drastic. GMV

That is all true, however to be honest I would prefer this fogged instead of Seki's. At least I can't go buy this at a walmart, or a target, or anywhere on line, even if I can buy some previous ramyb shirts. Lesser of two evils.

I like it... but is that text incidental? The text usage seems awfully similar to 'And then I was like BOO!' from last year, and that one got shot down for non-incidental text.

YES! Greatest Halloween film in years. I was seriously blown away by how fantastic Trick r Treat was.

I saw some images of Sam before I actually got to see the movie, and the character inspired me to do this design.

I think that one got axed because similar shirts existed and the only thing that made that one different was the text (I think).

I agree. Sorry mrwednesday, I think the cranberry looks great. I felt like the design got a little lost on the asphalt color. The creepy creepiness looks really good on cranberry for some reason- "She Never Sleeps" is still one of my all time fav's. And this one is one of my new fav's

Sorry...I knew I shouldn't do it...but I couldn't resist Nosferatu AND Sesame Street in the same design. *sigh*

Oh and also...for those who've never heard of Nosferatu, its a German expressionist film from the 1920s based on Bram Stoker's Dracula...I think the first vampire movie ever made and a pretty iconic expressionist film which can be found here.

Do people really not understand this shirt if they take the text away?

If you need text to understand what is going on in this shirt then that is kind of sad.

Re: Trick or Treat Terror

That anyone can defend this as original or good or not proof-positive that this guy is in this for money and not even a shred of art, and that he is a spiteful, disrespectful member of this community, is beyond me.

Every element is from somewhere else. Even Seki's cat this week at least has bigger eyes than normal... from these two that's a HUGE bit of originality. But here, we see a backdrop identical to prior pieces. We see desu critters who each look pulled out from an earlier design. We basically see Ramy thumbing his nose at us.

Combine this with a simple, simple fact: this is POINTLESS. There is no concept here, regardless of what Ramy implies. It is three adorable costumed critters. Even if Ramy's half-assed attempt at creating context is his actual intention, there is nothing to give anyone that feeling except his word. And seriously, by this point, is his word worth anything?

And mikey, seriously, not that we didn't all know this already, but it's very hard to pretend you are here for anything than kissing otakubutt when you spew out such childish mockery in response to opinions you cannot refute or invalidate. Especially when another member is repeatedly calling you out on that, and you are ignoring it just to carry on flaming. Seriously, you go to show that for every legit Ramy fan that there might be, there's at least one ignorant, reactionary flamer trying to insist that the people making negative comments, no matter how true, are more trolly than the supporters.

Words cannot describe.

I have to give you credit for one thing, though. Despite being significantly less talented than your boyfriend, with pieces like this that show less creativity than his already tired work, and deformity more prevalent than his worst stuff, and simply a lower standard of design, you seem to regularly get support far ahead of his. I don't know what mediocrity note you strike, but that alone is impressive. If also incredibly sad for the community.

I tried to make it less the Count by making his face more gaunt (with cheekbones)and taking away his smile, but you're probably right. Oh well...I just mainly wanted to do this for fun regardless of rejection or recent Sesame Street shirt sales;)

Re: trick or treat batty

It's 6 colors (red, white, green, dark blue, blue, and yellow) and thanks for the suggestion of changing the shirt color but I like how it looks now and think Batman isn't too hard to spot. I may reconsider.

And I know this is the same concept as the design I submitted 2 years ago but it is a completely new design. The previous one was only in 72dpi, had more than 6 colors, and was formatted incorrectly in Photoshop so I completely redrew and redid the design while making a few (but nothing major) changes. I feel i's a different enough design especially since it's not like I slightly altered a previous existing file which most resubmissions are. It's a completely new file drawn from scratch. But ultimately it's up to Woot and I did consider that this might get rejected but thought it would pass but we'll see.

My concern was the text is a punchline unto its own - it plays off the fact kids refer to pumpkin innards as 'guts'. I saw it as separate from THE punchline of the shirt, though obviously related. I genuinely don't know if that makes it 'incidental' or not. Thus the question.

given dsldek's "larping mishap" from well over a year ago (one of the first incidental-text derbies), this should be fine. In that shirt, there is a pretty substantial textbubble that takes it from a bunch of confused nerds around some passed-out guy to showing that these nerds mistakenly attacked him in the midst of some HARDCORE AD&Ding! So the punchline was used to explicate the entire piece.

Of course, woot is incredibly fickle about their rules, so who really knows what will happen here, but since this works with or without text, I think rejecting would be outside of precedent and also one more instance of woot making terrible rejection choices while keeping terribly rejectable tees in play.

I've never heard anyone refer to pumpkin innards as guts but I don't doubt that you have. I guess it's up to bootsboots to tell us but I doubt that was the point of the shirt. To me, the point of the shirt is pumpkins carving people. The joke is, people carve pumpkins. Hence the title, we carve people.

Incidental:

1. Loosely associated; existing as a byproduct, tangent, or accident.
That character, though colorful, is incidental to the overall plot.

if it is not necessary for the understanding of this shirt, which it isn't, it is incidental text.

The examples you show look horrible. You would expect to see those on your 80-year-old grandmother. I would drop dead before wearing those examples.

I personally like the design made by seki much more. What brought be to woot in the first place were the cute and unique designs (style not content...ok, maybe a little content). As for the originality of the idea, sure it's not unique but neither is a witch on a broom. It's symbolic of Halloween and if we can't use these common symbols, we would be off topic and just be drawing spooky things. Then it wouldn't be a Halloween derby, just a super spooky derby...
