Re: I Like Candy

If this is about being too similar to that sackboy thing from Trick r Treat I just don't see how it's close enough warrant rejection. That type of character is not unique to that movie. Hell we used to make little fellas just like that in art class in elementary school 20 years ago. But clearly it's too late now.

What REALLY offends me is that the rejectionator showed up to axe a good Drakxxx design but didn't eliminate the icanhazcheeseburger tiger pumpkin shirt from you know who.

watch the HVS!!!!!

Sygnal wrote:I voted for this shirt because it caught my fancy and i would buy one. I thought that was the point of voting. From the number of votes it looks like a lot of other people want this shirt as well.
I don't see why you are trying to tell others what to buy and what not to.

The rules for voting are not the same as the rules for the artists' part of the competition.

Resubmitting something that's substanitially identical to a piece that was rejected on the grounds that "similar shirts exist" is like giving the finger to Woot and the other artists, and people are getting a tad angry about it.

While there are no actual rules for voting except that you have to have made a Woot purchase before, many people feel that voters should take into consideration whether the artists are following derby rules, like staying on theme, creating original work, etc.

Personally, I'm more confused than angry. When Ramyb's lung shirt was rejected, he resumbitted it with changes that he thought were significant enough to make a difference. He was ultimately wrong, but he was able to make a case for why he thought his changes were enough.

In this case, the cat is a different color but the design is the same. So I'm baffled how the artist saw a rejection that said the design is too similar to other designs and then translated that rejection to mean that some different colors would make it unsimilar to other designs. Either the artist is giving the finger to the community or she truly doesn't understand the concept of similarity when it comes to a design like this. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt, but I don't know which of those two options is more appealing.

I'm so disappointed this got rejected. Last night somebody smashed my pumpkin and now the shirt I really wanted to win got rejected. My Halloween spirit is ruined.

I really like the design and the color choice, but heather does not like me. I sweat too much I don't think the design would be as cool on a different color though.

It took me a while to get this shirt... I thought it was an in-joke or movie reference for a while.

But now I think it's just epicly awesome. I love the big happy sun on the front of her mech thingie.

Re: Witch and her Broom

The dog as a broom is a great, funny visual touch. This would be a great design for kids. Really well done.

I wish the hordes voting for The cat up top would look at this and see how charming cute designs can be, with whimsy, style, and humor, and not just plate sized eyes. Even though I would never wear it myself, I truly wish more designs like this did better more often.

If you don't mind me asking, why would a dragon be a problem?

I think dragons are things that you either like or dislike, and there's no getting around it. Personally, I like dragons, and I've got quite a few around. A shirt with a dragon is going to get a second look from me, just because it is a dragon, but it's not an automatic vote/buy because at this point I'm looking for more unique items instead of "oooh, dragon...must add to collection."

But overall, I think there's that sort of reaction with pretty much every critter you can think of.

Re: I seem to have run out...Won't you come in?

I want to wave at folks to come on and look at how great this shirt is.

I wish I could do that. Pick out the ten best shirts, and force anyone who wanted to vote for giant eye-ball shiny shirts to look at the good shirts first.

Well, this is one of the best in this derby, and I do hope that perhaps more of the 'smart folk' will be looking at shirt.woot early in the week, and possibly swing the voting to great designs like this one.

G'luck!

Yay, I'm glad to hear others like the brown, thanks guys!

I also must admit that I was very apprehensive about entering the Derby, so thanks for the warm welcome folks

Just make sure that for the Thansgiving Derby- you don't have this shirt, on orange, with a big eyed turkey at the bottom... and for Christmas- this shirt, on red, with a big eyed elf in the corner... etc, etc, etc. ;)

Keep putting in entries with a strong, simple design, tie them well to the theme, and make them unique- and I will at least look at them every time. And if it's a good design, it will get my vote. And if it prints, it will get my money.

I really do look forward to seeing more of your entries in the future, you certainly started out strong.

Wow, you know guys, I'd be more than willing to resubmit if I know what the exact reason I was rejected for. As others have noticed, the reason seems to be cut a bit short.

Anyways, if the character is to similar to the Trick r Treat character, I'll change him around.
But if the reason is more along the lines of what Mr. Gentry mentioned as a possible composition issue, well I'd need to know that as well.

This combined with the submission issues myself and many of the other artists had yesterday has certainly threw a wrench in my Halloween fun here at woot, but as I said, I'd be totally willing to resubmit this design, as it seems to be the only real chance I had at giving you guys a Halloween design this week.

So please woot, do me a favor, and let me know why you rejected me, so I can resubmit. This is the HALLOWEEN derby I've been waiting for, and I have no intentions of calling it a total loss yet.

Woot, please give Drakxxx the knowledge necessary for him to resubmit this. I think that if he can fix whatever it is that you have rejected the design for, we can get it voted back up into the fog.
It is a great design, and does not deserve to simply fade away without some explanation.

Good luck Drakxxx. Your work is very distinct, and while I often do not find myself liking it, I always find myself impressed with it. This shirt is one of yours that I both like and am impressed by- so this juxtaposition cannot be swept away!
