Even if it's not a woot reference, I could see a judgment being made that the text is not incidental, since it's the only element on the shirt.

leaps into the vacuum either way, this design showed a great use of only 6 colors!

I don't see what the big deal is. I actually preferred the black cat. I could care less if it was like other existing shirts. This one was drawn MUCH cuter than any other ones I've seen. It's not if it's an EXACT copy, or the EXACT placement or the SAME other objects in this design as others that are similar to it.

Yeah, the thought about the "!" being text hit me after I had designed this. I figured there would be a chance I'd get rejected for that. I never even thought about the woot reference angle. Oh well. There's always next week!

You two are as much of copy cats as they are, but at least they have artistic talent, which is what really makes you jealous.

Oh, and BTW, almost every artist has a style that they reproduce. Would you attack Van Gogh if he was alive and entered shirts, because all of his painting look similar? Identical work gets identical posts.

Re: I Like Candy

Ok, let's make this very clear from the start: Of Drakxxx's three entries (I don't count that cartoony one because it feels too rushed and sloppy to associate), this is the one I feel deserved a print least. Part of printability is wearability, and I just can't see how this is more wearable than his other work. I think Requiem of a Soul Stealer is easily his best this week... how ironic that woot also declined that one too.

That said, it ALSO deserves a reason for rejection. That is BASIC RESPECT. If woot could find the time to reject it, they could find the time to log in and post in the thread when they realized they didn't have a full reason. If they were going to make a rare weekend rejection, they should have been prepared to make the reason well-known. It would help Drakxxx fix the piece easier, and also help his fans quell any anger if it was some sort of copyright issue.

The big question is also "why sunday?" To me, there are only two reasons: either they considered it a huge submission sin, or they wanted to give Drakxxx more time to fix it and have a fighting chance. If it's the latter, it's even more reason they should have taken the time to make sure the full submission reason was written out.

...but if it's the former? Why the hell wasn't MAI PUMPKIN rejected too? It's not like they didn't see it in the fog while rejecting Drakxxx's. What could possibly be wrong with Drakxxx's that is worse than resubbing a rejected piece with a different color scheme as if that makes it different? It makes woot look as though they WANT that to print. It's pathetic and disgusting that they'd target one and not spend a little extra time to knock off what they all know is an illegitimate pile of scaffolding.

It feels like Sokowa's "Far Side" rejection. An un-shown comic garnered her a rejection, while SIMILAR SHIRTS EXISTING didn't stop Tuesday's gonna be rough from printing. Just the same, Drakxxx gets rejected for (probably... who knows if they don't tell us) looking vaguely like a horror film, while a shirt that was already rejected sits pretty in the fog untouched, and another with at least as much similarity to Candy Corn Cannibalism as Drakxxx's piece has to Trick or Treat is skyrocketing toward the fog itself. Basically, if we are to believe that one rejection is warranted for non-shirt similarity, then pieces with EQUAL similarity to ACTUAL SHIRTS should be rejected also. If Drakxxx is gone, so should both of those, for the SAME EXACT REASONS. I hope we've all tattled?

It's more of the same, woot. You do not know how to run your site. You play favorites, and your favorites are the ones who need the least defense. This is one more example of you showing zero respect for the designers who truly came into their own because of your site, in favor of the designers who manipulate your site to make thousands of dollars. Wow. How utterly insulting!

I said in the first thread for this design that I had nothing against Sekiyoku, and in fact, found some of her designs appealing. I'm honestly sorry I said those things. Because of this stunt, I have lost all respect for her, will never vote for one of her designs again (and I have in the past when she posted something that actually looked alright), and will likely join the ranks of people who say nasty things about her on each of her designs.

Congratulations, Sekiyoku! You've succeeded in pissing me off :D

However, I hope the design fills more of the tshirt. The wings would look beautiful if given room to spread. I received Music Pirate in my random 3 shirt package today and I was disappointed in the size of the design, Ramyb. (not sure if that's your fault or woot's, however, so shame on whomever)
Good luck!

Wow, thanks a lot I believe in terms of filling up the shirt, it depends mostly on what size you're getting. Generally with smaller men's sizes, the design is really large, and as the shirt gets larger, the design appears smaller (they use the same screen size for all men's shirts, so the same size of design is just printed on a much larger shirt so it takes up less space). With a design like this, I'd expect the wings to extend from shoulder to shoulder on a men's small, and then fill about 3/4 of the front horizontally for larger sizes, etc. It's always hard to tell though, ultimately woot makes the decisions about how large a print will be (although I'd ask them to print as wide as possible for a design like this)

crazacool wrote:Sick awesome, Ramy. As usual.

jmmbell1987 wrote:Anyway, good on the halftones. I still don't care for the design, but that's definitely a good decision.

I had originally included the halftone because the grim reaper's color was blending in with the shirt too much I felt, but I found a better solution to the problem and got rid of them.

I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned the issue with the scythe, and then got a bit obsessive cleaning everything else up in the design as well and I think it definitely came out much better as a result Thanks for pointing it out.

kender42 wrote:I would like to see the shadows on the left extended down a little to make the shadows look like a full skull. The way it looks now it looks like there are 2 eyes and maybe a nose for a skull. I don't know if it was intended or not but I think making it a fuller image would fill more of the shirt and deal with the 'negative space' that others were complaining about.

I considered extending the skull downwards, but decided I liked the ambiguity more, and also liked the way the diagonal structure fit on the shirt. I'm not saying it was the best decision, but after debating, it's what I ultimately thought I liked the most (although it was a tough call)
