Definitely well drawn. I'm not so sure about skulls, to be honest. They're very common on shirts. However, I'm definitely interested in seeing what you come up with in the future.

I hope I wasn't too subtle with this one. I was also wanted to submit something a little less iconic but couldn't come up with anything. Anyway, enjoy.

the reference, if there needs to be one, is of those old Spookshow cartoons. there were plenty in the 70s. this wasn't one of them, but it should have been.

Although I really like shirt.woot and have purchased many shirts from here, the increase in incidents such as this are really making me unhappy with this site. It is almost getting to the point that if something is not done about rejection standards then I will have a hard time continuing to support shirt.woot. Though I do want to. But, the way shirts are rejected needs a way that will be consistent with rejections. And also responding to users and designers Questions instead of being silent and not responding to concerns as they arise.

euphoricxtragedy wrote:I could care less if it was like other existing shirts. This one was drawn MUCH cuter than any other ones I've seen. It's not if it's an EXACT copy, or the EXACT placement or the SAME other objects in this design as others that are similar to it.

I can understand why the rule exists, and honestly, it's a rule I fully support. See, the main reason I buy shirts from Woot! is largely due to the fact that I can find shirts that don't exist anywhere else. There are only a handful of sites out there that design quality shirts from submissions by independent artists. I don't want shirts that I can find at Target, Hot Topic, or even other online retailers.

I enjoy when someone comments on the shirts I wear, and the comments usually result from how unique they are. The rules shouldn't be bent just because a design is popular or "much cuter". To start allowing designs I could buy at any other retailer would defeat the entire point of Woot!, and quite frankly, would defeat any desire I have to shop here.

Speaking specifically regarding this design, I'd agree that nothing about it changes the fact that it is "too similar to other shirts".

Because it's basically just Candy Corn Cannibalism, printed again 2 years later with more shiny and zombies?

Clean & clever, I'm surprised it's not doing better too. I'm not much of a Halloween fan, but I would wear this.

My only critique is that since you mentioned glow ink, I'd like to see grey highlights in a color - say a light limey green or a vibrant aqua blue (complimentary to the orange). Still gmv

I really like this shirt design. One of my derby faves. I like all the monsters in color, especially medusa/lady with snakes in hair, as well as the shadow monsters and the chandelier. Basically, I like everything about it. Nice work!

Except with much better art. I still can't believe that one printed.

This design kind of looks like the old school Frogger game with all the layers.

AdderXYU wrote:Popularity does not imply quality, though, and if we're talking art, its artistry should be all that matters.

Art is part skill, part intention, part emotion. It's visual and visceral. It's about strong lines that make one marvel, and weak lines that hold a fragile, unique beauty. It's about capturing the beauty of reality, or making statements that transcend the bounds of our knowledge. And while some is profitable, and some even comes about as commission, real art is made because the creator isn't thinking about money... they're thinking about doing the best they can with the tools they have, and creating something they are proud to put their name on.

What Ramy and Seki do is little more than make packaging. And unless you're Andy Warhol and honestly think mass-produced soup cans are art, they are not creating art. Simply packaging, and poorly crafted at that.

We can argue, perhaps, that a shirt is nothing more than product. But then, so is a meal. And there should be no argument that some people make food which is artful and special, and other people make food because hey, people need to eat, why not slap a hot dog on a grill? It is not a separation of price ranges (anyone can find a neighborhood place that truly respects their food, thereby elevating their cuisine, and sells it for comparable prices to the chains), but a separation of mentalities. That woot sells for $10 does not mean the shirts need be worse. That woot sells art at all, on the other hand, means that it should all be well-crafted, diversely crafted, and respectfully crafted. Regardless of what that art is printed on.

I dunno. This is crisper, but crisper just looks more generic to me. The rougher nature of the first one makes it more attractive to me, because it doesn't have that soulless overpolished feel. But maybe it's just because first and third in that Halloween derby were both truly awful.

Of course, the opinion of which is better doesn't change the fact that the other one happened first, either.

I guess it was too close to that Trick r Treat kid. To resub, change the button eye to orange also and lose the lollipop. Then you have a seki resub... oh wait you're too talented and classy to do that.

Giving this one another go guys, so if you liked him before, I hope you like his new costume as well. I promise it's the same creepy little guy underneath. I switched out the red color in my original with yellow for the eyes, and figured that would make the jack o lanterns pop out more as well.

Re: but srsly it's mai pumpkin

I just started reading commentaries a couple of weeks ago. A couple of points.

First of all, I don't mind people who are critical of entries, as long as they have something legitimate to back up their claims. Sometimes there's a good reason (I can understand being miffed about a resub like this one).

I think it's childish though, for people to write things like, "I might buy it so that I have a shirt I can vomit my candy binge on, since the design is vomit anyway." It also irritates me when people just write one or two lines saying it's garbage. Great, you think it's garbage. Why?

I like cute t-shirts. I don't look on here to see what's the most creative (though I do like the funny ones), or the most artistically challenging to create. I look to see if there's something I might like to wear. That's not always the most artistic. I have now earned scorn from many of you, but frankly my dear, I don't care.

He looks spectacular! An excellent resub and you've got my vote again. I'm glad you kept the lollipop and the bat - those to me are the best parts and really give it that creepy evil kid demon vibe. I think the yellow eyes are excellent as well. Beautifully done as always.
