Oh man, I wish you'd post a larger version of the shirt image, so I could see it better. This is really cute. I like the smooth solid color style a lot.

I really love this on the red. I liked the design already, but the red really makes it pop! Great idea.

I always love all your art (though one of your shirts, the one doing the best, Candy Monster, I can't wear due to colours), but this submission is my very favourite.

Re: I'm in ur kitteh.

I like it. At first I was afraid it wouldn't work outside of the context of this derby's drama, but on second glance I think the message of somekind of horrifying brain parasite controlling a kitty for the purpose of obtaining sugary treats is pretty universally understood.

How is "12" a slogan shirt?

It IS incidental text because the text is involved in an incident. :P

I like your new version! And, it's my understanding that you can take this one down yourself if it has not been up for 24 hours. But, sorry, I don't know the technical stuff on that.

Re: but srsly it's mai pumpkin

The thing that really gets me with these comments is all the people criticizing this design when they have none of their own.

You don't like the design? Fine, then don't vote for it. Criticism is useless when it's unconstructive.

Honestly, I hope it wins, both because I like the design, and it would really give all of you jerks a big, and well-deserved, slap in the face.

Beefcoat, this is my favorite design of the derby. The tree you draw looks like it's pulled right out of the imagination of a child. Also major kudos for keeping the design so simple and clean.

I think the other artists generally try and stay above the fray. They'd look unprofessional and their criticism would just be written of as bias anyways.

And you miss the point. People are ticked because this design breaks the rules, it "cheats". Just saying it's popular and "soooooo cute I would totally wear it" isn't a valid counter-argument to what everyone else has said.

Nobody is defending against the argument that this should be rejected. They just keep saying "well I would buy it so I voted for it". You can say that they're "jerks" or "mean", but if this is a debate, they're winning.

Maybe I'll wear it to my daughter's school for their Halloween parade. :o)

bassanimation wrote:I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. It seems comic folks get really burned quite a bit. I know people in comics and it seems like it's always a struggle for them. Best wishes for you!

I wouldn't have to explain myself if everyone here was a working commercial artist, or at least people who do commisions, etc. Giving the customer what they want is all that matters in the working world of art. When rent is due, what is more important: Your pride, or the roof over your head? Most of us go into our fields of choice because we love it, but in the end, it's still a job, and you still have a boss. :\ Alot of people forget that. Growing up is hard.

I bolded the truest part. You have to play what the audience wants to hear. It would be nice if you could just do what you wanted to do 100% of the time, but that's not how life works. It doesn't mean you can't do your own thing, but sometimes you do what you do to make a buck. I don't care if you cater to your clients. No one has to buy it just 'cause it's on woot for a day, y'know? Stop whining folks.

I don't mean to spite fellow wooters or invoke the wrath of AdderXYU, but I'm not sure why he has so much street cred around here. I feel like he's not actually reading the full text, or at least he isn't responding to the full text of the comments made by the artist. You've seen bass's other entries; they're not all cutsey anime scaffolding. bass has some talent. She said herself that this was a one-time thing. Lighten up. At least it's not a stupid kitten/tiger coming out of a pumpkin - a shirt that has been printed many times over.

AdderXYU wrote:Were I an artist needing to take care of people, I would take a job.

Yknow, those things where you work for some pretzel twist and make money off something you don't care about and then come home and enjoy your family and channel that monotony into your art.

So basically you're telling her "Tough... Go work at McDonalds"? While I agree a part time job might be in order, I don't see any particular problem with attempting to do this to make a bit of change on the side.

I hate to argue with you since I usually agree with your opinions... but I think you're going a little overboard on B.A. It's not like she turns out low quality work week after week JUST to get money. I think all of her entries have been pretty great, but if she does a shirt that she thinks will do well I don't think any less of her.

If you're interviewing to paint the Sistine Chapel are you going to go in like "Hmmm... I think I'll pitch them something God related" or "Monkeys... they need MONKEYS!"...? Designing based on your audience isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Munchy Attack If you can find the name of this artist & real song title I'll buy you a daily woot shirt (your choice what day)
