It might be more than just the size of the halftones, though. Other factors, like whether there's an underlying color or adjacent colors, might be a factor in their decisions. But since they've never spelled it out, pretty much everyone is guessing, and then hoping that their design will actually be okay.

Considering this entry was absent from the latest round of rejection, I assume it is not pushing the limit of Woot technology.

I was just browsing the entries, seeing if anything's remotely worth blogging later, and I'm just wondering how an entry entitled "resub - no changes made" is not rejected.

Yes we know Kenney will never print, but seriously, woot, grow a sense of pride in your contest's rules.

Adder, kenny originally posted his entry during the time that no-one else could post; there were ony about 3 entries in the derby- his, ramy's zombie dog, and seki's kitten. One or two others were also there. Kenny was in the fog and had a bunch of votes. He actually posted a couple of entries for other people during the period when we were all really frustrated trying to understand how broken the derby could be. He withdrew his entry at that point, showing his solidarity with everyone who was unable to post, then resubmitted it when there started to be other entries begin to arrive. Sadly, nobody else realized what or why he had done what he had done; only a few people voted for him and he never recouped the lost votes. My recollection is that he had about 75 votes at the time.

more likely it isn't pushing the limits of being likely to print. They don't have to limit their options in the future by rejecting it for too small halftones, since it doesn't matter in the printing sense of the world.

I'm pretty sure woot's write up doesn't say "resubmitted entries will be rejected unless you sub it to prove a point, remove it, and then resub it again, and then only if we know it won't win"

Based on woot's rules, this should be rejected. Unless woot should play favorites like they already do.

I don't care. Kenney is insane and probably scary in real life if he's this dedicated to his pucker idea, but this is more a commentary on how pathetic woot's rejection consistency and legitimacy is.

Oh, well, I just thought you might want to know that his resub wasn't a typical resub of a grenade in front of an oil well, from a previous derby, x3, that in fact it was a new design created for this derby and submitted without pandering or any ugly motives. It made a difference to me, anyway. He also submitted several of his earlier years' halloween puckers during the no-entry allowed period (for the rest of us) all of which he listed as resubbed unchanged, and then withdrew them after the new submissions started to appear.

I don't think I'm understanding this. Is there a rule against pulling and resubmitting an entry? I've seen plenty where an artist has pulled their entry and resubmitted with nothing changed in the design, but maybe the thumbnail is tweaked. Is that grounds for rejection?

I just wanted to make a comment about how much conversation this derby has produced. This derby is at about 3000 comments. The past two were at about 1900 and 1600 comments. I think it is amazing the amount of discussion this single shirt has produced.

I think that Woot has often made the mistake of not participating in these discussions as it would clear up a LOT of things and clam people down. I hope they had make some comment about this shirt soon.

Woot has several times rejected designs for being direct resubs, and talked about it at the start of this derby,

Resubmissions from past Halloween Derbies are strongly discouraged, and will be rejected if not substantially altered from the previous submission. We'll be the judges of what "substantially" means, so as always, assume the worst or be disappointed.

First, can you let it go already? The artist says she's trying to find out what the crowd likes. At the same time, she's doing what she likes. The two are not mutually exclusive. This is very much in BassAnimation's style and is a unique and interesting image. It's not the cat in a witches hat playing with a pumpkin trying to look as cute as possible. It's a cat with a sawed open head and a monster peeking out from where brains should be, with blood dripping down the head.

You know, you complain that people brush you off, yet the first sentence in each of your posts here was condescending or directly insulting. You come off as a troll who is complaining only to hear your own voice, and you do the classic "Ignore any part of the thread that you can just to complain more".

You want people to listen? Try being nice for once. Please. You can say the same things in a nicer tone and, gasp, people won't just think of you as an unmitigated jackass who would best be ignored.

If you ARE a troll, feel free to keep insulting people, but you can't do that and go "Boo hoo" when people brush you off. These internets have been around a long time now and people can smell your ilk from a ways away.

If you're not a troll, if you're really this socially inept guy and have no idea that what you're saying makes you sound rude, belligerent, and self absorbed, then I am so so sorry for you.

If you would like to ignore this due to lack of "evidence", then go for it. I think his brand of spewing hatred every single derby stands for itself as an echo of how this community scares off new artists trying to dip their toe in the public waters.

I think I've seen more artists say they were leaving due to unrejected stuff that should have obviously been rejected and other artists not following the rules and winning.

Oh, and because the 'taste' of the shirt.woot voting base always trended toward memes and now is trending toward more juvenile designs.

I, however, do like the paneling. Gives it a comic book feel.

"but srsly..." she's got woot by the gonads and they'll never reject her & ramy if they make woot money. Someone who probably didn't know better made the first rejection, and when she resubmitted, they were all like "no, dude...let it fly this time, that shirt will make us some big bucks"

Or they told her how to fix it, and now refuse to face the angry mob.

I feel like this has a double entendre. "Flavor" of the season meaning her blood, as well as a reference to the many resurfaced obsessions with vampires that have recently ocurred (i.e. True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, & the other annoying and unmentionable book series...) Either way I love the design great work!

Seems valid. It might set a bad precedent to kill a shirt simply due to people demanding it en masse. I know, I know, there are many strong reasons for it to be rejected, but appearances are important too. It looks bad to reject a design at the behest of a mob.

From their perspective (this is really creepy talking about woot in the third person when it's on their own comment thread.....), the people speak with their votes, thus any public outrage should have its impact there. They risk having it look like a "few" (I know there are lots) vocal commentators can override the vote of the entire woot community. And if it doesn't fog, they might be able to get away with silence.

Just a thought.
