Not something I'd wear, but it's a cute design. I like the miniature characters around the face.

bassanimation wrote:I find it "disturbing" the statement that I "will make enemies" if I draw anime for this tshirt site... I was unaware of the extreme, violent emotions people feel for the style here, it's pretty amazing. I see plenty of things I don't really like here and elsewhere, but I rarely feel the need to go verbally stabbing people over it.. I just move on to the next thing. There's plenty for everyone's tastes.

Seriously, overreact much? I get that you are feeling victimized by people criticizing your words and the chibi animals but "violent" and "stabbing" is ridiculous. An enemy on a tee shirt website is somebody that won't vote for you and might just post on your entries to say mean things. That doesn't make you special, it happens to EVERYBODY! Especially people who draw anime here or spout win at any cost opinions.

I get that you are new and perhaps don't know the ropes yet, shirt.woot isn't a pop-culture cash factory, as other posters have so brilliantly noted in other threads it's proven by the fact that the Derby has rules. Stuff like the weekly Theme, No text, and No video game refs. If all Woot cared about was raking in the masses bucks for crappy tee shirts then they would be perfectly OK with people submitting "I'm with Stupid", cute anime animals, and Mario tee shirts every single week. When a gimmick starts getting too out of hand Woot tends to ban it to encourage creativity.

So no, you should not draw anime every week because that's what you think the masses will pay money for, we've seen your previous entries and we know you can do better than that. Notice Adder and others probably didn't flame you in those other entry posts. You struck a nerve with this knowingly or not, but it's not the end of the world if you don't repeat it over and over.

This week ESPECIALLY because of the Seki pumpkin kitty rejection/recoloring debacle

sirensmask wrote:Alrighty, addressing those that "countered" my previous statement.

First off, both entries were nothing more than recoloring and resubmitting. You can argue that oh, this one was because of copyright. Oh, this one is still more original. (I love candy) But you're telling me a creepy kid on pumpkins is something that isn't cliche or done before? I mean the previous entry was a compilation of two movie posters.

Both this entry and the other were addressing the problem of similar things being done. Yes, this is still a cat in a pumpkin. Yes, the other is still a kid ON a pumpkin. But because they changed an element, both have resubmitted a previously rejected piece.

And of course, the matter of if this artist is just messing around with everyone in their evil plot to make more money. Forgive me, I've seem to have forgotten this website as with all businesses is out to make money. And the artists want money too. Do you think we'd have nearly as many artists here if they werent compensated? Likewise, do you think woot isnt just trying to make money too? They sit back and let the community of shirt buyers ultimately decide. But suddenly everyone seems to have brought in some personal baggage, trying to make this contest seem like something more than it is. /rant

I knew someone would try to compare the two. However, they don't compare. I'm not going to get into a subjective comparison of the artists and the level of non-rejectable cliche in their pieces. That's up for debate. However, their rejection and resub stories aren't comparable.

"I like Candy" was rejected for potential copyright violation (which resulted because of the costume). Drakxxx fixed the copyright issue by changing the costume. If he had, say, changed it to a full grown adult in the same costume, the copyright issue would remain. But he didn't. He addressed the issue at hand.

"Mai Pumpkin" was rejected because it contained a cat in a pumpkin. The resub still contained a cat in a pumpkin. If it had become, say, a wombat in a pumpkin, then the issue would have been addressed. But she didn't do that. She gave it a superficial spraypaint job.

As for the money part, please, pay attention. Of course people submit here in hopes of making money. But Seki's stunt was cynical and insulting. Hell, look at the slew of posts right from the get go. Those aren't all rabid ramy/seki haters.

Other than that, I can't quite figure out what you're saying in the second part of your last paragraph. Is it that woot ought to be inconsistent with their rule enforcement and favor designs that'll sell well?

andrewlb wrote:
tell me which one you would choose?
good grief

She could've made it into a wombat.

The point is, rejections happen all the time. Most artists either suck it up and wait for next week, or truly address the problem.

Woot is full of fail.

I hope it gets fourth. That way, Woot can give it an HM, and then later, an EC, just to shove it in our faces how little they care about their own rules, and instead subscribe to a system of favoritism.

Or, maybe they roll dice to determine if something is rejected. It would make sense.

In any case, way to fail, Woot

i'm GUESSING that it was for copyright reasons, but i do think it was kinda rude for woot to just put "don't think so" as a reason...

doesn't really matter on this one, though, cause i only submitted it last minute as a joke, and expected a copyright rejection.

Re: but srsly it's mai pumpkin

Well now the derby is over so I'll answer a few questions.

1. Why did you resubmit this entry?

I liked the design a lot, it's probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite design I've ever done. I was very sad when it was rejected, although not that surprised after people posted links to various shirts on cafe press. I didn't think it would win with the resubmission (and it didn't) but I could at least give it a chance, and if it did, then I would be extremely happy to wear it.

2. Why didn't woot reject it?

I didn't expect the resub to get rejected and it's not surprising to me that it wasn't. The similar shirts that exist are of a black cat in a pumpkin. Black cats have a specific association with Halloween. If there were oodles of shirts with various things in pumpkins, then maybe my shirt would have been rejected, but there aren't, and there definitely aren't any shirts with tigers in pumpkins. I'll give you an example - there are probably a lot of shirts with Santa in a sleigh. It would probably be rejected if submitted for a Christmas derby. But there probably aren't any shirts of a mailman or a plumber in a sleigh. They are still people, but the shirts are no longer similar.

3. Do you have no respect for anything?

First of all, the people who say that this is a slap in the face to Woot or the rejectionator are laughable. Woot doesn't care. If it's not a shirt they want, they will reject it and go on their merry way. It's only a slap in the face to people who hate the design because it was rejected and they were so happy and then it was back. As for the design itself, I spent a lot of time planning it and working on it and trying to make it look cute, and in the end I was pleased with the result, so I do not feel bad about posting or reposting it. And while I appreciate the other shirts in this derby, I won't be buying any of them while I would buy my shirt even if it had been done by someone else. So people just have different tastes, and I think it's unfair to be persecuted for liking things that the vocal minority does not like.

4. Stop pandering!1111

As I've said many times, I only do shirts that I would like to wear. If you look in my woot/threadless closet, the shirts that I buy are similar to the shirts I design (with the one exception of oversize prints, but of course woot can't print those).

I think that's everything of importance. If you feel the need to respond to this, feel free to send me a PM as I won't be checking the thread. Happy Halloween everyone.

1. I'm not creative enough to come up with an idea I haven't seen a million other places so I didn't have a choice but to resub with slight changes.

2. After ramy's double rejection last week and my rejection this week we sent a very angry email to woot and afraid to lose the money we bring in, they tucked their tail in between their legs promised not to reject it.

3. The only thing I care about at this site is $1000 plus commission. The only thing woot cares about is first day sellouts and shirts that stay on the reckoning. They don't care about the community either so why should I?

4. I have no taste so all I like is mass produced wapanese garbage. It's all I draw and all I buy.

The derby rules state that "incidental text" is allowed, which this submission's text falls under.

I have tried to talk to them civilly, but it's lost when they can't comprehend what they say let alone what I say. Adder has gotten a lot better recently and I haven't been arguing with him and have had some civil conversation with him, somebody else took over the reigns though. Trust me, they have had their fair share of blatant insults towards me as well. One of them being a homosexual joke. I doubt you would call that civil and mature. You can't gain their respect because as long as they disagree with you, they will give you no respect. There are tons of examples around where I'm not involved. You just have to look around. But... this derby is over, onward to the next. Out.

Mikey- This seems a little nitpicky, but I'd appreciate less use of generalization and separating all posters into two camps (attributing actions to "they", for example).

You don't tend to generalize, but the poster you responded to was doing so. I ask this of you simply because you tend to be very vocal on threads, and you've gone out of your way to specify that posters who back up their criticisms or accusations with logic and evidence ought not be included with people who just rant (a stance that not everyone holds).

Anyways, sorry for the nitpickyness, and I always appreciate your willingness to respond to my frequent disagreements without resorting to the age old "you're jealous!" stuff.
