You two make a good team. Your styles mesh really well together. Good luck to you, it looks like you're well on your way to the top.

Well I'm not sure how far they'll go with it, but they generally have a very low tolerance for photos (probably because they've been burned on numerous occasions). As I recall they'll reject with just the explanation "Photo". I think if you can look at the finished product and still recognize it as the original photo then it's probably going to get rejected, silhouette or otherwise.

Indeed.

I think the issue comes down to too many people taking the stance that "Puns are so popular, everything's already been done!" and not pushing deeper to get something new. When some seemingly obscure puns are still well-covered territory, people need to push even harder, instead of presuming that their piece will be spared solely for the widespread nature of puns.

It may be early to speculate with nothing really rejected (woot is nothing if not fickle), but this could be an extremely brutal week if approached fairly.

Nevermind the fact that the one you linked blows chunks in terms of design quality. tgentry's has more character than that one could ever have.

tgentry wrote:And given that this is a derby about puns, unless we are charged with creating new words for the english language it's pretty much all going to have been used before.

What he said. It's not a matter of doing what's never done before, but taking something and making it fresh and better than it's been done before. Boots' Assault and Battery is a good example of that. Familiar concept with a new spin.

Better visually. I made no comment on the copyright.

I suppose there are some unexplored puns out there, but finding one seems to be pretty difficult. There are examples out there of every shirt that's fogged right now, plus most of the top 10. Half of the shirts in this derby aren't even puns, but literal translations of words or phrases. I expect some major carnage come Monday.

Definitely the best entry so far, in terms of being equal parts inspired and well-executed. I really want to see this print. GMV

Whoops...my first time submitting a design without my friend's help. Somehow the submission with the template did not show up correctly although it looked fine when I sent it. Any suggestions on what I did wrong? Thanks in advance.

Re: Sperm Whales Make Great Seamen

hahaha awesome, GMV. perfect amount of obviousness. doesnt scream nasty like it has the potential of doing, and if someone gets it you know theyre cool. its also manly enough for a guy like myself to pull off.

unfortuantely though i have my doubts it will get enough votes. i only just bought my first shirts today and from looking around in the forums and seeing previous votes and what not im not sure it will, but hopefully im wrong
i want to buy three shirts in this derby, this one, the punch line, and elderberries one and none of them are in the fog :[

i do think it needs a big cannon in the rear though if you catch my drift, and the guy in the lookout can get the binocular thing ;)

I like the insects on this one better than v2, but I like the simplicity of v2 better. The trees don't really add anything for me.

i'm guessing the middle one has cheese, but it almost hides away from the roller on his stomach. plus it'd be interesting if it was a computer chip.

"Anime (アニメ), an abbreviated pronunciation in Japanese of "animation"... is animation originating in Japan."
-Wikipedia, 'Anime'

My shirt image is not an animation, but thanks for the thought there.

Re: Backwards Anatomy (Resub 2)

"Some people's noses and feet are built backwards: their feet smell and their noses run."

This is a Resub of Backwards Anatomy (Resub). I completely redid the nose. Now it should look more like a nose.

Hope you like it!

Re: Rugrats

Rugrats.

This is an idea that Bassanimation gave me a few months ago that I'd been working on making into a painting. I'd stalled on the image for awhile until this derby came up. I really happy I was able to finish this version for Woot and hopefully I can finally do the same for the painting.

I hope you all like it.

Re: Brain Food

Okay, I realize that this is a bit silly. But since Woot just printed a shirt where a kid's brain is removed for a jack-o-lantern, I think this should be legal too. IE- there are certain cultures that eat brains regularly. And as satire to a popular cartoon tuna.

Braiiinnnnnzzzz..... in a can!

Yep. I actually wanted to see if there were any comments about that. WOOPS!
