The text here is NOT incidental sadly.

If you get it printed elsewhere let me know b/c I know some chem people who would love this shirt.

Thanks for the headsup.
OK, I thought I was good with it-
What does incidental mean, exactly?
I thought if the text was part of the design, like a letter on a plane or a compass rose or something like that it was fine.
And yeah, in the future, I'll probably print most of my designs, so...

psyci wrote:For the convenience of the Woot administrators, I have identified several other video game references:
* Penguins with jetpacks is clearly a reference to the Club Penguin game by Disney.
* ET has been in several self-titled video games, such as "ET" on both Atari and Playstation. ET crashing is clearly a reference to the Atari version of ET being so bad it crashed the entire video game industry for a while. (Look it up.)
* A jetpack is clearly a reference to the game "Jetpack" released in 1993 by Software Creations, or to the game "Jetpac" released in 1983 by Ultimate Play The Game.
* Heli-packs have been featured in the Ratchet and Clank video game series. Clearly, that can't be allowed.
* An origami crane is obviously a reference to the game "Minagara Oresu DS Origami" by TDK on Nintendo DS.
* Flying whale and birdS? Clearly a reference to "Die Fail Whale", at diefailwhale.com, which features both birds and whales.
* Rodent strapped on a firecracker? Hasn't anyone played "Rocket Weasel Game", playable at flasharcade.com? It features a very similar rodent strapped to a very similar firecracker rocket.
* Birds flying? A lone tree on the left? Clearly a reference to "Duck Hunt", isn't it?
* Blue birds singing on a electric wire? Obviously referencing the classic "Singing Bird Game" on funflashgames.com.
* A floating land mass? Does this look remarkably like the floating continent from Final Fantasy VI (FF3 in the states) to anyone else?
* A boy floating with red balloons? Hasn't anyone played the NES classic, "Balloon Fight", which has boys floating holding red balloons?

Therefore, in the interest of fairness, Woot must reject nearly ALL of the top contendors for this derby. They are all clearly video game references.

Your welcome.

Well done!
I know it's already rejected but for the future can we not just appreciate the art submitted and let the rejections be done by the rejectionator?

Incidental means that your design can't be dependent on the text to work. Like all rejections, it's fairly arbitrary, so you may or may not be rejected.

This is cool because it's so simple, yet very expressive. I love the line weights you have going on.

Thank you so much, I use a brush pen for all of the thick lines. Very useful for getting line weights minus some of the problems regular brushes have. No ink bottles to spill over. =P

Hmm... I think that's a stretch for this one, I've always seen the element symbols as self-contained designs, so it'll be interesting to see what happens...
Thanks for the input!

Heh, she's making fun of my taste in music... it's actually a reference to a Miley song. (too much references!)

Heh heh, I loves weird kitties... for example here's an image I drew of a cat puking kittens. I also did an image of a mouse that lives inside of a cat.

This does look a lot more interesting than the previous version. The fish really looks like he's "flying" now, and it's great that he's larger on the shirt too.

Re: Grand Battle of Flightless Birds V.2

I was quite pleased with the design, so I decided to work it out with some differnt color edits, based on some of the suggestions I received on the original.

I switched one of the grays out for a second brown color to help bring the kiwis out in their full glory.

If you were on the fence with my original, perhaps this version will do the trick.

Heres the 2 compositions for comparison:

Also here is the link to the original submission. if you still like that one better, it's still around.

I like the original better. The new more saturated colors push the ship too far into the foreground for me. The other one has a better atmospheric perspective.

Thanks for the great link. I did not know. I needed more legs here to show what a pain the shoes were anyways. I also enjoyed face palming the forehead with a leg as opposed to an arm.

This is an awesome concept, very original. I love that the colors of the hang glider are so bright against the grey. I do not like the heather grey shirts very much normally, but I do love this and I would buy it! GMV!

Oh man, adorableness, and I am always a fan of your work! I would definately buy this! Is it on asphalt? I think the navy would have been a great choice as it would have made the blues very rich, but heh, either way. I am not one to mince on shirt colors. I love it, gmv!

HalfWheat wrote:I think it's funny that people are arguing where yetis and polar bears live, but are blithely accepting penguins with goggles, scarves and helmets.

Part of the charm of this is the nonsense factor. As far as the rejection, I can see the logic. If so many people were reminded of the game, then it's probably enough of a game reference.

Polar bear's good. Panda would have been even more incongruous.

Myself, I think a few people were reminded of the game and were very vocal about it, resulting in other people looking up the game. I'm a netaholic, and I've never even heard of that game until that thread; it sounds like it's a piddly little flash game, I don't see how that can even factor into a contest like this.
