Re: Grand Battle of Flightless Birds V.2

Excellent redesign. I was never really on the fence and I really like what you've done with it. Unfortunate it does lose a bit of the ethereal feel by saturating the colors which is a negative but I think it's a definite improvement over all.

If either make the fog, it's a purchase for me.

fultron89 wrote:Hmm... I think that's a stretch for this one, I've always seen the element symbols as self-contained designs, so it'll be interesting to see what happens...
Thanks for the input!
Fulton

One test of whether text is incidental or not is to imagine the design without the text. If it still has the same meaning, then it's incidental. If you need the text to explain what's going on or to carry the joke, then it's not incidental. If yours didn't have text, you'd just have blank squares, and the meaning would be lost.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "self-contained designs" but even the numbers and letters on playing cards count as text in a derby where the rule is no text. People get caught on things like that all the time because the text is part of the design of a playing card, and isn't something you need to read. But it's still text. However, that text on a playing card would be considered incidental in a derby like this.

Rejections can be quirky, so you never know if something's going to be rejected or not until it happens.

Please print. Please. If not here...somewhere!

Agreed! Hell, if I had the money, I'd donate just so the artist could get this printed on their own.

I'm going to come here every day and express my love for this shirt. I apologize for the annoyance ahead of time... XD~~~

I edited this version because I also liked the fish alone without being balloons. Orz.

Yeeeep. Been done soooooo many times as shown above and above that and above that and again above that.

Nail on the head amigo. I figured I'd notice if there were similar designs while looking for reference, but no. Maybe I'm a bad googler too. :/

HalfWheat wrote:I think it's funny that people are arguing where yetis and polar bears live, but are blithely accepting penguins with goggles, scarves and helmets.

Part of the charm of this is the nonsense factor. As far as the rejection, I can see the logic. If so many people were reminded of the game, then it's probably enough of a game reference.

Polar bear's good. Panda would have been even more incongruous.

No kidding! +1

I love this shirt very much, I will buy two of these, you can still link close ups in this thread to persuade people!

Re: Grand Battle of Flightless Birds V.2

this one is even better i think

one thing though, i think the cloud right under the ship needs some shading lines and outlining, like the old one had. i also liked the blue lines the old one had on the ship; was nice detailing. this ship is a little plainer detailwise, but the color is better on this one

not my style personally but very well done. i also like the choir reference, i am in the choir but i wouldn't have gotten it except for my sister just watched the sound of music, and has been singing the songs nonstop for about a week now

vary nicely done

I like the colors in this one better. It does seem to draw your eyes to the ship, but the darker brown helps break up the lighter colors. I can definitely tell what is going on in the scene at a quick glance where as the original, I had to stare at it for a minute.

This is, for the first time in all my Woot watchin', the first shirt I'd actually buy. I wish there was even a chance it'd win.

As always, you're of the best Boots, and DEFINITELY most consistently brilliant.

This obviously isn't a normal bear if he's providing a service for a fee. Maybe he built a boat, or he got into the penguin habitat at the zoo.

I know it's already rejected but for the future can we not just appreciate the art submitted and let the rejections be done by the rejectionator?

nope. woot has posted several comments in the past that they rely on us to let them know when things don't comply. Sometimes they reject things based on their own research, but often they make rejection comments that show their rejections were based on comments in the derby threads. or, more often, on tattles, I suspect.

I just don't get the appeal of this shirt. Who other than a 10-year-old boy would want to wear a fake jet pack on their back? All the other ones already printed are equally as cancellation.
