Thanks. The kid and box actually went really fast for me, the thing that took the longest was actually the clouds because I couldn't get them just the way I wanted. I still have some reservations about them but at certain point you have to just put the tablet down

Thanks! This is my first Derby Entry. I tried to use what i know to make a shirt i liked. So I kept it simple and used some glow effects. I also like the idea of using the entire length of one side of the shirt, so I decided to use that area.

Re: Progression of flight

I would have to say I'd lose the penguin. It has (IMHO) nothing to do with the background images and doesn't really add purpose to the design itself. Also, I think the airplanes would look great with a sort of distressed looks to them. Just my $.02!

I don't like ANY of the ones in the fog. EH.

Thanks hajile! Glad to be a prime example of a shirt you'd actually wear!

Manvyi wrote:Well, thank goodness, people are only worried that the wings look like a knife, the dog looks gruesome, and it's panting. For a while I was worried that someone might ask exactly how the dogs had managed to fix those wings onto themselves (rivets? bolts? superglue?) - and how they're powering their flight...

But it could have been worse - it could have been penguins and kittens.

Thanks for comments everyone! After I'd finished this, I thought that if only I'd had time to think, I'd have made them all dalmatians instead. Or border collies.

I think it's just the angle of the dog you chose for your thumbnail and the fact that the bottom wing extends past the bottom of the image. :/

Re: It'll never work; 19th Century Flight 101

lmao. i do agree it is terrible. who would even want to wear that as a shirt? i can't even understand it. all i see is a chalkboard in a classroom with a plane on it and some weird drawings. and its a blocky picture. and it has a crappy overall feel. if this is your first entry than sure, second, maybe but if this is like your 5th i suggest trying to make something you would wear

kbloomq1 wrote:Are you kidding?? As far as I can tell, you're doing extremely well in the Derbies in general. Yeah, okay, you haven't printed yet, but you just came in a very close 4th in the last Derby, and you've had multiple Honorable Mentions now. And you haven't even been here that long. Lots of artists here would LOVE to be in your shoes. And you're whining about "not doing well"? Wow.

Your designs usually impress me, but I gotta say that your attitude rarely does.

Sorry you (and many others) feel the need to judge me personally based on a couple months of "ShirtWoot derbying". Ahh the internets... I'm sorry for my 'tude, which I appologized for up there in my original post. It was just a momentary vent..which is ohheeemgee unforgivable here, I forgots! I'll make it better, here:

HAPPY TREE FRIENDS! YAY! BALLOONS!

If you wish to continue to state your thoughts about me, please pm, and let this artist's thread get back to his design :D.

Also, I'm -extraordinarily- thankful for the support I get here...just you know. ^_~

Josephus wrote:It matters for fairness sake. Nobody likes my designs this week, that's fine (though they are pretty good IMO). I'll move to the next thing. But the thing is, video game references are banned. There's a good reason for that- such cultural references have a huge advantage in a contest like this. They are familiar, people spend a lot of time nowadays playing video games, happy time, so anything with a Linkā„¢ to such a thing is likely to have a built-in voter base. If they weren't banned, there would be a lot more entries using a variety of video games, and it might be a fair playing field. Since virtually everyone didn't submit entries that are related to such games, those who did, wittingly or not, have a huge advantage. This is where the unfairness comes in.

i think it's hilarious that people have to whine about other people's designs because they can't design something good enough so that people actually want to buy it...

the reason pop-cultural references do so well in a derby is because people like the pop cultural reference and want to buy it; it has nothing to do with fairness, if you can't design something better, then too bad for you, people are going to go with what they like and that's why, in the end, it ends up being sold by woot, because woot knows it will sell well because people already like it

and i don't think this is really a video game reference, similar, but just because it has elements of a similar game doesn't make it a reference, cars->racing game, football->sports game, etc etc.

i like this shirt and i like the resub too, and i'm voting for it and will buy it when it wins

They would commend it, they say don't over use their product, and this is what happens when you do. This isn't saying you take one you die. Its says you drink a entire case, you will be blissful for the next 5 seconds till your body is overloaded with caffeine.
