HalfWheat wrote:Beer! That explains everything. I think I'll go have a beer now. It also fixes everything.

As I was reading the response about woots rejection meetings having beer in them, I was sitting in a terrible meeting (obviously not paying steller attention ) thinking, 'if only this meeting had beer'.
Beer would fix and explain everything. It also would make bad meetings wonderful.

Re: Gaseous Irony

So, it got rejected.
At first I was pissed because why would woot reject a shirt the day before the derby ends, when they've let it go all this time?
Now I'm still miffed, but I see other fogged shirts that got rejected, so I don't feel as bad.
I really wish the rejectionator had given me a no on Saturday so I could at least be thinking of other ideas, but alas.
Anyway, thanks a million to all those who voted and commented, and here's hoping for an Honorable Mention!
:-)

You forgot to put it on a template. You should resubmit with that because this one will get rejected.

kbloomq1 wrote:Are you kidding?? As far as I can tell, you're doing extremely well in the Derbies in general. Yeah, okay, you haven't printed yet, but you just came in a very close 4th in the last Derby, and you've had multiple Honorable Mentions now. And you haven't even been here that long. Lots of artists here would LOVE to be in your shoes. And you're whining about "not doing well"? Wow.

Your designs usually impress me, but I gotta say that your attitude rarely does.

koopadaisy wrote:I agree completely. It has taken over a year for some very talented artists to print here and they weren't complaining the entire way. They simply kept submitting good, quality work and eventually grabbed a print. This continuous whining about not winning derby after derby by bass after only entering 6 derbies or so (and receiving HMs on more than one piece) really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and just screams 'entitlement issues'.

This is strange... are you saying that a quality artist must spend years here before they can be recognized by the voters as a name to put in the fog? That a good artist can get lots of votes but shouldn't expect to win until they've been around long enough? That's pretty sad, to straight up acknowledge that talent doesn't matter as much as the name recognition and familiarity does. :p

Thanks Mikan! You're right, it's definitely a different style than my usual - in a lot of ways. I'm glad you love it!: )

Re: It'll never work; 19th Century Flight 101

I think the problem comes in the layout. It looks like a picture pated on a shirt. The shirt needs to be apart of the picture!
I do however understand and appreciate the subject matter. The irony is amazing. In fact it strikes me as gary larson-ish.

Haha at first I thought you were linking to a shirt like this and I was like dang! That's funny though in a morbid kind of way. People that drink that much sugar and caffiene in one sitting are asking for it.

There is a tossing game, but it's definitely not the same as this design. The one you are talking about I think was the original one.

No one should expect to win. Want to win? Sure. Hope to win? Sure. But no one here is that much better than anyone else that they should expect to win. Even the most popular designers go for many weeks without getting close to a win. So someone relatively new who does well, gets lots of praise and wins a couple HMs and then posts about how they should be doing better is going to garner some negative reaction. Maybe the posts aren't meant to sound that way. But that's how they come across. That there's an entitlement to a win. No one is entitled to a win. If it happens, it happens. But complaining about not winning yet isn't going to win more fans.

No, because they rejected a shirt with a somewhat similar design when they choose not not reject other shirts that are EVEN more similar to existing designs, like sekiyoku's pumpkin cat or that quick brown fox and lazy dog shirt

The template is probably the least of the problems, which start with the design's originality and continue through the fact that it can't be reproduced on a shirt by Woot....

I have a feeling that people are going to have to explain what is happening in this shirt frequently. You can't really tell if the fish is Landing or taking off without the text.

I think what they are saying is actually "you've done well, and better designers have taken longer than you to win, so shut the hell up and stop being a baby"

The designer has all but said she is here solely for a paycheck, and complaining that she hasn't won in a whole month of submitting kinda cements that.

It's pretty predictable that woot will almost always disenfranchise a perfectly justified entry and leave a should-have-been-rejected-a-year-ago one up and in the fog all week.

Not that FAIL was justified. I'm kinda in love with the rejectorator when they go heavy handed on the referential rejections. *bats eyes*

I really like your color use, especially on the underwater half of the fish vs the upper half. And the colors of the fish with the balloon against the sky. It's really effective, and I think it also adds to the mood quite a bit.

Nice concept, although you may want to show the detail by making the design larger with a small shirt comp in the background, kinda helps. I had a little trouble being able to tell the cat in the tree at first. But made me laugh!
