I try to suspend my disbelief of plainly wrong submissions getting votes until they hit 25 or so. from 25-50 I say "umm..." and past 50 I tattle if I haven't already. Consequently, I haven't "effing hell?"-ed since Derby 100.

I did the google search as you suggested, and I see your point.

In defense of my design:

1. It's multi colored (everything google image search threw up was mono-chrome)

2. I don't have the stem in the picture

3. None of the shirt designs show up when you don't include shirt in the image search (which is what I did when looking for references)

Given the fickle nature of the rejectionator, I've come to the conclusion you're better off submitting and see what happens then self censoring.

Just look what's happening in the fog right now. In my opinion the jet pack shirt should have bit the dust days a go, while the ET shirt was different enough from existing designs to stay. I have very little doubt there is personal bias at work when it comes to rejections.

Yes, this must be asked for the umpteenth time: Why is this shirt still not rejected for being similar to many others on many other sites?

WOOT started this shirt thing with the intent on offering shirt that you couldn't get anywhere else. so to reject for similar shirts exist,is the very thing they are looking for. they just hire people that don't know what that is.

Even after all that rambling, GMV. I'll just tell myself the polar bear is on holiday. Yep.

The notion of polar bears and penguins getting along bothers you but the notion of a yeti throwing penguins doesn't bother you at all?

What I find most funny about this situation is that if this were a Ramy or Seki shirt, people would be FREAKING. OUT. "this is unoriginal and disrespectful blah blah blah whine whine whine reject NAO!".

HalfWheat wrote:I agree that the penguin and the background don't quite fit together. You could have worked this into two shirts. One with the penguin, which would probably have needed something else going on, and then another with the airplane concept.

Not sure what the penguin would have needed, but considering all the other penguin shirts, it would have to be something different that what was submitted earlier.

The only problem I have with the planes is that they look like stock artwork that you just arranged on the shirt, which probably wouldn't get a whole lot of votes if it was all you had going on with the shirt. And even as a background element, people would be more impressed if you drew the planes.

If you did draw them from scrath, then there's something about the style than gives them that "stock art" look that's not as appealing as something that's a little less precise, so maybe that's something to consider for the future.

Txs I will take that into consideration as my full time job requires me to draw exactly what I see I some times find it hard to get out of that mind set. Yes I did draw the planes took me quite a while too so thanks for saying they were precise I do take that as a complement

I think Icarus should be white if you're going to have the design on a navy shirt. You're probably going to have to re-sub anyway because of the gradient around the sun.

The curve in the strings between penguin and balloons bothers me. That line has to be completely straight if the balloons are supporting the penguin.

Change lite coke to Cola lite or somethnig, and change mentos to mintys/o-mints or something. You can suggest a brand without copying it completely.

Never EVER expect Woot to explain anything about how they pick what stays and what goes. They won't do it, it's like speaking to a stone wall. I've tried to email them about things, reporting things, complain here. Nothing. I'm convinced the staff will never do anything more then stamp "rejected" on shirts and move along.

kenney9226 wrote:Oh, dear friendly neighbor from the North, I direct you to the historical archives of the shirt derby, way back to derby #15: time travel souvenirs.

You will see that in that week I managed to pull a Marty McFly and return with my winning entry from future derby #387: six packs, with the following triumphant entry:

If you do further research, you will note that at the time I lied about actually winning that derby and that I actually only came in second place. This was even more proof that I brought this back from the future, as at the time of derby #15, only the top vote getter was being published, and second and third place entries were not printed.

Clearly, my trip back from the year 2014 was no joke, as I bought this shirt that was a second place winner on Saturday, December 27, 2014, waited at my home for the smart post delivery, and came back to November 2007 to show everyone my triumphant souvenir from my time travel.

Inspired by my knowledge of my eventual victory in the future, I continue to enter the shirt derby.

Alert readers will also realize that with my obvious proof of eventual shirt derby victory, those who claim that 2012 will be the end of time are clearly proven wrong as well.

Thank you and have a super day, everyone!

i want to see a picture of you wearing that shirt. you owe it to me after i read all that.

Re: Stay Grounded

It bothers me that this shirt is doing fairly well and no one has even mentioned that it doesn't have much to do with fight. Yes, I know, birds can fly. But these birds are singing and getting electrocuted so where is the flight in that? Seems like another boots design that, cute as it may be, was shoehorned into the derby theme.
