Look, if you're panties are in a bunch because this is less like said shirt than the rocketpack is to other rocketpacks, I'm with you. Woot is proving why people are so malcontent with them on that move. But it is still a viable rejection made no less viable for what has gone unrejected.

I think this shirt is just as bad as the rocketpack (which has awful physics) in terms of similarity. This one contains silhouettes, the same objects, same color scheme, osv. as the other shirts. At a glance, the referenced shirts could easily look like this one.

The rocketpack is just a bland overused idea that was never appealing in the first place.

I still love this design. It's funny enough that people can see it and get a kick out of it over and over... I don't find too many of those shirts here anymore so I hope this pops up elsewhere.

I don't think that's going to happen based on the votes and time left (unless it gets an Honorable Mention and gets another chance), but thanks for your enthusiasm!

I love it, I love it, I love it... I would wear it everyday without a doubt. I'd probably buy 10. Just so all the people I am around are in the same shirt also...
Please make it into the fog.

Of course it uses the same elements it's referencing a famous movie scene!
And this shirt is far more clever than the one that already exists.

This leaps into the vacuum I really wanted to buy this shirt too. Screw all ya'll ivory tower types, this is an awesome shirt.

Thank you I didn't think about it when I finished, originally the penguin was in a different position and I used the shear and rotate tool to move him. I need to watch that in the future.

This shirt's in the fog and so, apparently, not rejected. The execution is great and I like it far better than any of the other rocket-pack shirts referred to here. So - execution and salability works. That's no crime. Good job - GMV!

But these birds are singing and getting electrocuted so where is the flight in that? Seems like another boots design that, cute as it may be, was shoehorned into the derby theme.

If you scroll up to the first post, you can see my explanation of "flying," the last bird is supposed to be taking off in flight. I agree that it's not as clear as I would like it to be. I think I failed in the execution of the idea, rather than in the concept.

OK, so I continued on my journey through the entries and saw FAIL was rejected because it was similar to existing shirts. Errrrmmmmm.... Just ignore me. I apparently know nothing.

Re: 99 Luftballons
go to threadless. or just type in, "99 red luft balloon" in google images and see what ya get.

you get the same title with an entirely different image and style. All of the following bands have a song titled 'Sunday Morning'

1. Velvet Underground
2. No Doubt
3. Maroon 5
4. Earth, Wind And Fire

Same title, different experiences. No different here.

For artists, so much rides on the name you build for yourself. Ramy and Seki have not taken care of their name(s) so people have less patience with them. To my knowledge, Blammoed has not done anything in the past to tarnish her name, so it makes perfect sense for people to cut her slack.

But whenever I look at the fish all I see is that the number of fins is wrong and they don't have gills and augh my brain it hurts.
It's like seeing a cat with 8 legs or a human with 3 arms and a missing nose. *twitches sadly in fish biologist corner*

(1 dorsal, 2 pectoral, 2 pelvic, 1 anal, 1 caudal, if anyone other than me cares)

In this genre of art I think sometimes one needs to suspend one's disbelief. That being said, if I think about it too much it troubles me that the fins are scaly. I think that might be part of what makes people think that they aren't fish.

I do love the shirt though. Would love it more if it had the title. The title just adds and enhances that extra dimension of meaning and emotion.

For myself I think rejection is a matter of opinion. I don't think I've personally posted saying any shirt should be rejected that ends up in the fog. I leave that for a woot determination. I can't put my finger on their consistency for rejection. I lean more towards inconsistent but they are human....

mrwednesday wrote:They aren't just here for the win.

I had a conversation with friends this past weekend of money versus pleasing people. Ramy and Seki have bad raps with a group of people over the internet. At the same time they're making suitcases of bills. From some numbers I ran on their sales they make tons of bank for the work they do. I can't see them, or even woot, changing their polices and becoming more strict unless sales drop. If Ramy and Seki are going to pull 3k shirt sales in a day that's really good for them and woot. So they're pleasing that many people versus a very small(in comparison), yet dedicated, minority. You can't please everybody, although bootsboots is doing a better job of pleasing people with her fish shirt.

Re: Your Time to Fly

After all the comments about similar shirts existing, I went looking. While there were a whole bunch that came up with the search, most weren't jetpacks on the back of the shirt. Like pictures of people wearing jetpacks.

Of the shirts that were supposed to be jetpacks on the back of the shirt, one looked like air tanks and little else and one looked like a spaceship rather that a jetpack. There were none that you'd put side-by-side with this one and say that they reminded you of the other or that they looked similar in design. Yes, they were jetpacks, but there are also a multitude of shirts with trees on them, and tree shirts don't get rejected just for being trees. They need to look similar in terms of execution.

Honestly, I went out looking for the billions of shirts that look just like this one, and I was ready to say, "oh yeah, I've seen that before," but I didn't find what I was looking for. Of all the shirts I looked at, only one was close to this in style, and it's a shirt that's up for voting. So the shirt doesn't exist, yet. And the rule is about similar shirts, not similar potential shirts.

Maybe I missed a bunch of shirts somewhere that look really close to this one, but even though I was looking, I couldn't find them.

Obviously, the "similar shirts" rule is subjective, but I'm not convinced they were wrong to leave this up.

i already said i liked the shirt, you are the pea brain that spun everything. and watching the films does my user name have to do with anything? i have purchased three times as many tees as you at least in waaaaaay less time than you. so don't even try saying my account is to garner votes.

The one on the cat is close, but I didn't find the shirt for sale anywhere. It could be a one-off iron-on design or maybe it's from a obscure site I didn't find. The threadless one is the next closest. But still different. As different as the multitude of tree shirts or bunny shirts or penguin shirts or cat shirts that don't get rejected.

The last one is still a jetpack...maybe. But it's a very 2-d design while this one has a 3-d feel to it. Completely different execution.

"Similar shirts" is a judgement call by Woot, but I can see why this wasn't rejected. I'm not saying they were wrong or right, just that I can see the reasoning behind it.
