raebee wrote:A method of tossing would be underhand vs overhand. Shooting something out of a cannon or hitting it with a bat or even tossing it are all very different.

Tossing implies throwing, hitting implies sudden force by an outside object, and shooting implies either momentum cause by explosives or something pulled taut such as a rubberband or bowstring.

I'm sure you think it's different if you toss a baseball at someone, hit it with a bat, or shoot it out of an automatic pitching machine.

:End Rant:

The penguin is still a Projectile cause by the Yeti. A projectile can come from any force which involves throwing, shooting, hitting, tossing, sliding, falling, etc etc etc. It doesnt really matter how it got there.

The game contains a Yeti (Check), a penguin (Check), a goal of getting the penguin airborn (Check). You nailed all of the components the game consists of, making this a game reference.

I meant that there were none in the design. ;)

I have bumped into a few saguaro in my day but I have, fortunately, avoided cholla and fishhook barrels. For a native Arizonan, cactus thorns are more of a childhood rite than anything else. :P

You need to have bought at least one thing from a Woot website to be able to vote.

There have been games about paper airplanes and shuttle flight, not to mention Joust or Solar Jetman.

Please, get off the horse.

Oh well. Turns out instead, it's another one of your designs that I really want.
Great job! Got my vote.

abottleofcoke wrote:No it isn't a knockoff. In Yeti Sports Penguin toss the penguins jump off a cliff and the yeti hits them with a bat. This shirt is completely different.

Great shirt!

There just aren't ANY associations of Yeti and Penguins (or seals) that exist outside of the game(s). In the games there are a variety of ways that the penguins are sent; like the shirt, the yeti sends the penguin, or seal, or whatever it might be in the flash version you play, yeti sends it flying farther than any penguin, or seal, or whatever, has been sent in the best fling OF ALL TIME! OF ALL TIME!

Who cares, you guys? Do you really have nothing better to do than argue on here? It's a great shirt and not your decision whether it gets rejected. If it happens, that'll suck...if it doesn't, I'll be buying one.

Oh this is wonderful! I love it on the blue (you had originally thought asphalt, right?), it makes the whole thing look so bright, like a wonderful adventure tale. I can picture a story based on this, it's just so well thought out and interesting.

It's definitely got my vote.

(and in another note- the derbies really seem to be getting very 'strong' and interesting again! yay!)

Re: Fail

Oh they ran into the moon. That makes total sense and is hilarious because it's funny when people run into stuff. The reason this is getting votes is because, like Pavlov's dogs, some people have been trained to laugh whenever the Internets show them a picture with the word Fail on it. Too bad the Fail isn't on the shirt since that's where the votes are coming from, not the dated and weak E.T. joke.

It matters for fairness sake. Nobody likes my designs this week, that's fine (though they are pretty good IMO). I'll move to the next thing. But the thing is, video game references are banned. There's a good reason for that- such cultural references have a huge advantage in a contest like this. They are familiar, people spend a lot of time nowadays playing video games, happy time, so anything with a Linkā„¢ to such a thing is likely to have a built-in voter base. If they weren't banned, there would be a lot more entries using a variety of video games, and it might be a fair playing field. Since virtually everyone didn't submit entries that are related to such games, those who did, wittingly or not, have a huge advantage. This is where the unfairness comes in.

Primarily photo-editing, original taken by JB Clarke (my dad) a few years back by the Green River in Utah. Obviously I have permission, but if Woot(!) doesn't trust me I'll totally understand. Getting sued is nasty business.

I'll be posting links to a larger composition and the original photo soon.

I really like this, but as a very pale redhead I just can't wear creme. I understand wanting to keep that palette, as it really works, but did you try the design on cranberry or navy? I think either would look fab (admittedly for mostly selfish reasons).

I am sorry to be the one to let you know that you are incorrect.
Perhaps some of the votes that this is achieving is simply due to a pavlovian response to the word 'fail', but I am quite sure that a much greater percentage is based on the quality of the design.

This is a wonderfully drawn piece of work. It will look excellent on a shirt. It is interesting, and funny.

Yes, you are right. A bicycle piloted by a child and an alien will not hit the moon. The fact that you noticed that element of the design is impossible does speak to the excellent education that you have. The moon is really far away. Good job on picking up on that.

Anyhow, this shirt definitely has my vote. Great job!

In addition, its taking up a spot in the fog of some other persons work who has followed the rules of the Derby. Its a shame that so called artists have to fall back on pop culture references in order to drum up votes for a piece of work. Then people who have better designs that took the time to come up with an original idea get tossed to the wayside.

It would have been funny 20 years ago. Heck it was mildly funny in the endless amount of parodies just like this one that have been done already in movies, cartoons, etc. I'm pretty sure woot had a side deal with a shirt where the kid is falling off the bike. Sorry, not very original, not very funny. "Fail" is doing all the work here.

I'm not a pale redhead, but I recently discovered aa cream does not look good on me either... it just looks off. I have non aa cream/off white shirts that look good though, so must be something in the aa shade!

Anyway, off my body, this color pallete is very soft and pretty!
