Also, after Christmas you can take a sharpie and write whatever you want in the bubble. "Ni" if you're a Monty Python fan. "Go Knights!" if you go to Rutgers (I think). Or just a simple "Poop" if you're that kind of person.

Love the quirky style...love the suggestions even more.

Okay, that comment sounds rather stupid now. BUT, when I had it arranged by vote, this one was in the fog, and did not display the votes until I clicked on it.

So--the fog is still having issues.

Man, am I ever glad you posted this.

After Wednesday said he thought it was the most damning, I went batty trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to open. Tried it in several different browsers.

Darn internet sarcasm and my gullibility!

haha. I can't imagine jewelwing doing anything like a livetrace and I wish more artists would try to use reference photos to actually get some realism into their work. The fact that they are so close is a testament to skill more than anything.

I have more respect for Jewelwing now than I did before. I also have NO respect for YOU for standing up for Ramy and Seki every week Bassanimation. If you can't see the lack of respect those two have for the community, then you are blind and don't deserve my respect.

With people pulling out the pitchforks in response to artists using reference, I can't really blame them for avoiding it.

I try to diversify my references for this very reason, but it doesn't mean only using one isn't a valid technique.

They win because their shirts look good. Seki's "cute" shirts are generally very popular with the ladies and ramyb's shirts always look badass. I know most of my purchases have been shirts by one of them. And I get a lot of compliments on my woot shirts when I wear them.

This is not a competition for which design is the best "art" or has the most "soul" or whatever. It's a contest for which shirt would be bought/worn. shirt.woot is not a gallery, or a charity. It is a BUSINESS.

I wish someone would crunch the numbers and figure out which artists or shirts have been the best sellers in the last year. Because I'd be surprised if they weren't up there. Probably #1 and #2.

I'm not voting for this shirt because I don't wear "cute" but I will continue to vote for good looking shirts, shirts I actually will buy and wear. I really wish they would create their own web site. They could sell so well.

I couldn't picture Jewelwing tracing anything either- sometimes, I find that her work is 'not for me', however, I always find it well done and I have a large amount of respect for her ability.
I'm normally decent at picking up on tone in writing, but every so often the internet catches me. (You will note though, that I do wait before typing out any crazy theories! )

I wish they'd make their own website too. Because they could sell well over there, and not take up space over here.

Completely serious. They can sell calendars and stuff too. They wouldn't be the first ones to do it. I don't know why they don't.

(Probably because it takes an initial investment, which they have more than enough for by now.)

Also really popular and sells well

Doesn't make it art or wearable or good. There is more to being a business than just making money. It is ignorant to believe otherwise. Plenty of businesses have actual morals and integrity. Every other shirt site on the web takes things other than votes into account for printing. They are also businesses. But they respect the art too. Because humans respect quality, and monkeys respect flinging poo.

But yeah, I agree that they should start their own site and get lost. Except they have no integrity and won't take risks. That is why they only give woot the simplest, most generic and poorly executed, surefire popular pieces possible. Lack of necessary effort. Starting a tee shop means effort. They have never put effort in for anything artistic before. It's just a money grab for them. Starting a site would require them to put their necks out.

Yes it was. I also read about both of them, but especially Ramy, on Encyclopedia Dramatica. I found the section entitled Woot Shirt Scam very interesting.

They don't need fake accounts. They have all the Gaia Online and DeviantArt people, plus, I'm sure Ramy has his own listserve.

EDIT: I tried to post the link for Encylopedia Dramatica, but Woot's filters made it totally useless as a link. it is as stated with a .com/Ramy.

I think it's been that way since I was first sent those links. My guess is that, since woot is a forum full of internet trash, they filtered it out long before shirt even existed.

I could be wrong, but who knows.

The important thing, however, is to realize ED is like current news, insofar as there might well be worthwhile information there, but you need to go to the original sources for the gold. there are certainly some important pieces of info linked there (I -love- the gif of ramyfaces), but you need to sort through the conjecture and "lulz" for the damning evidence.

I really think this and Loop's should both print. Where her's pays attention to a great amount of detail, Robbie's pun brings a certain level of technique and creativity to the table. The two should definitely print to show greatness in their different ways.

The reason why this shirt GMV.

I like how there's nothing x-mas related too. Totally clever

"'Your friends... What kind of people are they? I wonder... Do those people... think of you... as a friend?
'You... What makes you happy? I wonder... What makes you happy... Does it make... others happy, too?
'The right thing... What is it? I wonder... If you do the right thing... Does it really make... everybody... happy?
'Your true face... What kind of face is it? I wonder... The face under the mask... Is that... your true face?'"
