I'm fully convinced that they have a large handful of people that will just vote for her work regardless what it is knowing they wouldn't buy it. There just can't be that many people out there who want the same cat and mouse on a T-shirt every week.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

It's so weird how many of these there are in this Derby! I'd never even heard the song before.

I like the "sweet" treatment you've given this one. I almost want that rhino to have his own shirt, d'aw.

I can't tell whether my tears are because I just read the lyrics, or because this piece of junk is still in the fog. Both are terribly depressing.

I know! My brother-in-law started singing this song as soon as I told him what the derby theme was, and I started laughing--he'd introduced me to the song last Christmas. And here I thought I was being clever and that no one else would know the song! :D

And thanks for the compliment--the other toys were supposed to be sad they got rejected. I wanted to give the rhino a hug!

Aw, I figured you would have thought of something more obscure, assuming you listen to this type of music, based on your taste in art. What would have been the first song I thought of? Not sure, mostly because I tend to listen to music without words, sort of like these shirts. I also dub thee cat as kitkat for future reference.

The design is based off the lyric "Gone away is the bluebird," but I tried to let it visually convey the mood of the song for me Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this one up, and I hope you enjoy.

Unfortunately, this doesn't hold up. Seki's offerings generally sell out and are in the reckoning for multiple weeks. As much as this 'art' makes me want to puke, I'll give her that much...

AdderXYU wrote:Also, nowhere in the song does it say that santa will obliquely fly around on a laser-reindeer and destroy you all.

The only true tangible is that there is a town being approached by Santa. Except here, there's not even an inkling of town presented.

Adder, I have grown to respect (and mostly agree with) your posts, but you have it wrong here. This is a valid interpretation of the lyrics, and the silhouette of the town is below the explosion. Those shapes are buildings.

I agree and disagree. Better than the santa entry in that it doesn't have a reindeer shooting lasers from chibi eyes. But not better because it's a step back towards the typical swirly side placement with some bird/fish/whatever swooping up towards the neck.

I know a small part of Christmas is about wrapped boxes but you should try to not be confined to your typical box, ramyb. Be one of those difficult gifts that no one even tries to wrap because they are so epically big or awesome.

windflies wrote:for crying out loud ... these are the lyrics -

"You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town"

... nowhere in this song does it say that Santa is coming to pat you on the head and give you presents. this picture (and the other similar one, for that matter) is an interpretation of the lyrics as stated in the theme. it just happens that we are all conditioned to think of Santa as a great guy ... but if you read these lyrics without letting that preconception drive how you interpret the words, i believe the picture works very well and does follow the theme. in fact, if you read the words with the idea that Santa is not actually a good guy, it works BETTER in my opinion.... some of those lines have always made me wonder.

I must have missed where it is sang with a sense of dread and not cheer.

But I do see your point. I think it is a stretch at best though. Again just my opinion.
